Despite my username, I’m English by birth so I was thrilled by today’s result. England having to do a penalty shoot out in the World Cup will be the death of me though. As soon as it was heading that way I thought we were out. I was working today so couldn’t watch live, good thing or the stress would have done me in. Excited for Saturday’s QF!

Usually on Saturdays I keep my fingers crossed for good weather so I can leave before dawn and drive some distance out of town and go on a long bicycle ride. Last Saturday I driving back, white-knuckled while I listened to FRA-ARG, just missing the final minutes as I arrived home. This Saturday, I'm low-key hoping for rain so I'm forced--forced--to stay inside and watch the 10AM game.

Courtois has been the best keeper in this tournament, that last save was a thing of beauty. Belgium's going all the way. Their offensive line can't be beat, especially on the counter-attack. Nine different Belgians have scored so far.
fitz, I just told my husband this morning that they'll face England in the final. Puns a plenty!
Tchau tchau, Neymar estúpido...you can take your next dive onto the plane going home. So happy to not be insulted by his theatrics anymore.

Croatia or Russia No idea how this one will go but I'm going to go for Croatia, for no other or logical reason other than that former tennis player Goran Ivanisevic is my exact birthday twin!!

I think Russia got really lucky (or maybe “lucky”) in the group stage and knockout—they’re good but nowhere near Croatia.

Croatia may be a bit dull to watch, but I'll be thrilled if they completely shut down Russia right now. I couldn't handle the host country getting any more "lucky".
France v Belgium, Croatia v England would make this a very satisfying semifinal.
