it surely was sweet to see him go so early especially after all the hype (which he's got for the last few grand slams) that he absolutely is the fave to win. The hype just makes me scratch my head.
Nadal sure will be tired this weekend - quarter-final tomorrow and if he makes it through it's the semi on sun and the final on monday.

Stuff like that would not happened if they allow the players to challenge a line judge's call, and I must say it was not the only call she got wrong. There were some long balls that the judge did not call, and Serena let it go.
I think the players should have the option of an appeal, because that will eliminate a lot of the players' frustrations. Futhermore, I think the whole foot fault thing was bogus. It did not exist.
That's what ticked off Serena, who was already battling it out with Kim.
Needless to say, Serena lost her cool and went too far, but I do not think line judges should be a deciding factor in a game, if they can't even go an review the footage to backup what they (thought) they saw. As they say in basketball, they should swallow their whistles at a certain point and let a player play, but I do love how at critical points in ending quarters they can review tape.
However, this whole nonsense about the line judge gets the call right is so backwards. What is to say, the line judge might have a certain dislike with a player?
The only thing I know is that the tape gets it right, and if you can't tell from the tape, then perhaps, it should not have been called.
Heck, if I wanted a subjective sport, I would still be watching figure skating.
Now, I'm rooting for Kim, but I do not think I'll be watching the Women's finals.

Nothing excuses Serena's sorry behavior. That was beyond ridiculous and someone of her caliber should know better. I've lost a lot of respect for her now.

CBS is not going to carry the women's final. Probably because there are no Americans in it and the two women playing are pretty obscure. It's on ESPN 2.

Kim Clijsters "obscure"?! She's a former top ranked world champion player who's returning to tennis after taking two years odd to have a baby, and who's outplayd all comers-it's a great story, no matter if she's an American or not. I'll be sure to watch.
Plus, her match with Serena "the Spoiler" Williams was terrific to watch-until the soured end. For the record, btw, since apparently no US outlet will mention it out of delicacy, Serena didn't just "get mad" or "question a call" or even just rage about a call a la McEnroe(who's been mentioned about a billion times as a comparison). What she said was, among other things and while stalking repeatedly towards a sitting woman, shaking her tennis racket at her-"I swear to God I'm going to take this fucking ball and shove it down your fucking throat and kill you! I swear to God!". And she continued in that vein. She was wildly out of control.
Compare that to any other pro behaving in a rude manner. The ones I've seen have been "Are you our of your mind?/Are you an idiot?/I don't BELIEVE this!/That was not on the line!!" etc etc.---NOT threats against the line judge. BIG difference. It was a farce and as far as Im concerned Serena just went ballistic to say "the hell with it" since she knew she was losing anyway. Her demeanor during the press conference was unreal-she acted like an immature 13 year old: "Whatever". Honestly, it was sickening. That some people I see on the NY Times site are calling the race card to defend her and deflect any criticism of her behavior is ludicrous. Exhibit A: her sister Venus, though having the same upbringing, parents and largely experience has never, ever acted that way on the court, no matter what.

Honestly, I think that Serena needs to be booted from the double's final tomorrow. There are bad calls in all sports, and she's certainly been around long enough to know better.
It's disturbing that she went so ballistic. Asked if she said that she was going to kill the judge, she said, "I don't remember".
Where did civility go? You can now openly heckle the President, and apparently you can make death threats in sports.
