Venus Williams wrote a published letter to the LTA regarding the equal pay issue las year. Unfortunately, I can't find it right now, but I remembered some of the points she brought up was the fight for equal rights by Billie Jean King and others, the message of inferiority it sends to young girls, and just mentioning the overall popularity of the women's game (Her 2005 wimbledon final against Davenport was one of the finest matches I've ever seen). And just to be brutally honest, and I'm not being sexist at all (I'm a woman afterall), I don't think women's bodies can handle the additional stress on their bodies. Like now for example, Zurich- there have already been 4 withdrawals. Players even young ones,- teenagers are breaking down. The season is too long, the physical demands on the body are much tougher due to the way the game is played today, and the WTA is too inflexible with their demands on the players. I think putting additional requirements on the players would unfortunately bring down quality of play not increase it. Found part of the letter thanks to wiki, scroll to Fight for Equal Prize Money.

Woah, who knew that Nalbandian still had it in him? Roger Federer stunned by old nemesis David Nalbandian. Well, as I said I like Roger but it warms my heart that poor old David was able to pull this off, it's his first title in 18 months! ETA: he also managed to beat Djokovic and Nadal this week! Damn it David, where have you been all season? Bit late now to wake up when the year's almost over!!

Has Sampras ever said anything about Federer's ability to break his records? Like, does it bother Sampras that his records will be broken quickly? Does it bother him that Federer is perceived as better? Is he troubled that he might no longer be the greatest ever? Just wondering because it seemed like Sampras was EXTREMELY determined to be the greatest ever (and was even told that he would be from day one) and every article back in the day used to be about how Sampras would go on to be the greatest, was the best bar none....and now suddenly we have the same things being said about Roger, though I'm not sure if he was determined to be the greatest like Pete was.
Also, I think Roger's classiness is genuine. With Pete, I'm not sure...it seemed like he had to mention himself that he was classy or that he wanted to be classy or that he was raised to be classy...just basically that his on-court behaviour was supposed to be interpreted as classy rather than boring.
I have to admit though that when I was a kid I thought Sampras was very cute. Now I'm sort of embarrassed because he grow up to be bald in weird spots and have exaggerated features but when I was a kid watching with my family - and had no real opinion of my own on tennis - I thought Sampras had nice features and was handsome.

Ds1, for the most part Pete has had kind word for Federer. But before this year, when PR machine went into high gear with Federer especially concerning Wimbledon, he made very snarky comments about Federer's dominance mostly citing the level of competition. But recently Pete's fallen in line, although I still think he's a bit miffed with all the attention and success Federer has earned.
Interestingly enough Pete has made some not so kind comments about Rafa, always belittling his clay court success Personally, I think it's harder playing on clay. You need finesse, patience, and endurance. I wasn't too fond of Pete before, but he really turned me off since his retirement.

BREAKING NEWS: Martina Hingis tested positive for cocaine. Just to follow up-she denies ever having done drugs. She decided to retire rather than fighting the charges in a drawn-out process. Is it possible to have a false positive on a drug test (cocaine)?

Anyone watching the ATP Masters Series Cup?
The quality of play is amazing, and none of the outcomes thus far have been predictable. I'm loving it !!! ;D

Federer beat "the balding" Sampras in an exhibition match.[/url] That's cool with me. I like Roger tons better than I ever liked Pete. I'm an Andre girl through and through. My dad (who's a tennis coach) used to have a poster in his office of early 90's Andre with those crazy, long, flowing locks. I was only 8 but I knew that was a beautiful man. And he and Steffi seem perfect for one another, aside from the pressure on their kids to be great tennis players. I hope they become chefs or writers or the like, unless they really, truly enjoy the game.

I haven't been in this thread forever. For Andy R., I meant another major. He really shouldn't just have 1 US Open title. He'll never beat Federer, sad to say but I need someone to knock out Federer so he could have a chance. I just hope he doesn't pull another GasquetGate. I hate the crap he takes from not only the media, but also former American players. They say America is in such turmoil tennis-wise, and it is but once Andy retires, they'll truly see just how disastrous it is...at least Andy made it deep in many tournaments he's played. Blake doesn't factor in this at all...he's such a mental midget, he'll never win anything major. When Andy was coming up, there was a lot of genuine talk about him. I just don't see that with any other American player. Lots of hype, but nothing really tangible. Maybe if Donald Young gets his act together.
I was a big Sampras fan because the first time I saw tennis, it was one of his matches. I was meh on Agassi. Since they've retired, I've flipped. Sampras comes off as a total asshat. Andre has been quite charming and engaging and appreciative of everyone's different qualities.
I don't buy Federer's charming and gracious act. Sure, he's that way now when he's winning. You can already see the cracks in his facade when he was beaten by first Djokovich and then Nalbandian twice. If he starts to lose more, I'm sure you'll see the cattiness come out.
