Eeeekk, Venus and Serena playing against one another for the 30th time. I don't know who to root for. Back when they seemed to be always playing each other and seemingly sharing all the titles I wasn't a huge fan, but these days it doesn't happen so often and I love seeing either win. This time I think I'm rooting for Venus(haven't seen results at time of typing or sure its been played). Eta Just checked saw the result. Maybe it cos they are so good the best we have seen like With Fed and Rafa I want them all to stay playing for as long as they can. Its a priveledge to have seen them play. Have you seen the controversy about Serena's Cat suit for the French Open? I loved Nike's response of .... " You can take a superhero out of her costume but you can never take her superpowers"

" You can take a superhero out of her costume but you can never take her superpowers" I tried to watch, but my nerves got the best of me. Plus, Serena kinda rolled her ankle in the first 2 minutes, and they kept replaying it. I was too squicked out to continue. I would have been happy with either result, but I'm glad Serena won. I hope she takes it all. The catsuit drama is too petty for words. They are such haters. I wish she could go out in a full bunnysuit and kick some ass. They just really seem to have a stick up their asses over Serena.

They just really seem to have a stick up their asses over Serena. It is incredibly petty and frankly, pointless. Serena (and every other player) has a different outfit/set of outfits for every tournament. Banning the outfit AFTER the tournament? Why bother, she wasn't going to wear it again anyway. (Wimbledon apparently banned a catsuit once, but they did it DURING the tournament. The match was suspended for darkness and she wasn't allowed to wear it again when they played the rest of the match.) As for Serena vs Venus, I never really enjoy seeing them play each other. It always feels like there are too many layers to really get a good match. Especially when there's something on the line, like when Serena was on track to get a calendar year Grand Slam, I have a hard time believing Venus would try to beat her if it would put an end to that goal. Very bummed about Federer going out last night. He hasn't been playing well the last few tournaments, but I didn't expect him to go down to a relative unknown.

Early one, it seemed to me that Serena was intimidated by Venus, and would choke during their one on ones. She clearly got over that, and now it seems like Venus is the one that doesn't want to step on her legacy. Not sure if Venus could still go all the way. She's had some injury issues in the past, so much so, that I was surprised she made it so far in the US Open. And I was shocked by Federer's defeat. He never really got into his rhythm. I wonder if the heat/humidity was the only contributing factor. I know players prefer certain conditions (clay vs grass, etc.) but I would think he trains in all conditions in order to be prepared for times like those.

I wonder if the heat/humidity was the only contributing factor. I know players prefer certain conditions (clay vs grass, etc.) but I would think he trains in all conditions in order to be prepared for times like those. There have always been rumors about the early years of the Williams sisters era, so maybe I'm subconsciously influenced by those, but it's been said that their dad used to determine who would win their head-to-head matches before they even played and that he held Serena back a little bit to give Venus her time in the sun because he knew Serena was/would be better in the long run. Again, could be total bullshit, but it's something I always think of it when they face each other, even all these years and the estrangement from their dad. As for Venus, I think she has some sort of chronic health issue (maybe sickle cell?) so I'm surprised she's been able to stay as competitive as she has for so many years. I don't see her winning another major, but who knows. Strange things happen in the women's side of the draw (like #1 seed Simona Halep going out first round and blowing my entire US Open women's bracket to hell on day 1, grrr). With Federer, I hate to even think it, but to quote Rocky "time is undefeated." He can't stay on top forever and the opponents will just keep getting younger. In better news, Serena really played amazing last night. She was moving better than I've seen her move in years, I wonder if she's got some kind of new training regimen.

Wow. That was something. I feel so bad for Naomi, whose first Grand Slam title is tainted, despite how well she played.

I didn't see the match(no sport channel) but reading it seems the poor girl apologised for winning and Serena asked for the Booing to stop and acknowledge Naomi's first Grand Slam win. What went down? I'm also reading the Umpire penalised Serena which cost a game?
Congrats to Naomi she should be enjoying this win not feeling bad over it.

The umpire accused Serena of cheating?
What?
I don’t follow tennis but I’ve never heard anything like that about Serena.

The umpire accused Serena of cheating? What? I don’t follow tennis but I’ve never heard anything like that about Serena. Not cheating exactly, of receiving coaching. It’s such a gray area because her coach was (and admitted as much) trying to give her coaching, but whether or not she was receiving it (like, was she looking, did she take in what he was saying) is debatable. That was the saddest, most awkward trophy presentation I’ve ever seen. Poor Osaka. I’m 95% sure she would have won even without the game penalty for Serena, so it’s a shame her first grand slam win went down like this. The booing was terrible, even though it wasn’t technically directed at her. Good for Serena for speaking up for her during the ceremony.

Serena has always had that edge to her, I guess that is what has made her the champion that she is.
