Andy is still a grumpy curmudgeon on the court, he complains steadily throughout pretty much every match, lol. But off court, he seems to be a good egg. Some people need to fire themselves up to play and it can take many forms, so that may just be his way.
I know in recreational tennis, if my opponents are too nice, I have trouble getting going. An asshole opponent or a bad line call makes it easier for me to get into it, so negative energy can be motivating for some people.

Barty was never into tennis like that so it’s really not a shock. She barely wanted to leave Australia.

I’m not surprised only thought she might have wanted to try to defend her Wimbledon title.

The only real thing for me was trying to get a US Open title, then she would have all four. But she’s looked done for a while.

Naomi Osaka just started talking to a therapist after Indian Wells. CNNGood for her, and for acknowledging that it's difficult to make that step. I'm sure it will be nothing but beneficial. On the other hand, I don't know how someone can spend an entire year publicly discussing their problems with depression and anxiety, and take to the cover of Time Magazine to accept the mantle as a symbol of positive mental health, all the while having not sought treatment. The conversation has centered around "we need to regard mental health the same way we regard physical health". Well if somebody kept me updated for a year about their struggle with Lyme Disease or cancer and then at the end of the year mentioned, "I finally saw a doctor about it last week" I would think that's very out of whack.

Barty was never into tennis like that so it’s really not a shock. She barely wanted to leave Australia. She's also walked away from tennis entirely in the past and come back. So this retirement may not be a forever thing either, but if is, she certainly accomplished a lot in her short career. Yes, it goes back to the platform thing, it seems like she's more focused on making statements than making personal changes. Like with the "I think press conferences are bad for players' mental health so I'm not going to do them" pronouncement that she then had to walk back, it was really about HER not wanting to do them, but instead of trying to arrange accommodations for herself that would make them more palatable, she made a declaration that she hoped would start a movement among all the players. The first step should have started with her, but she skipped right past that and made a public spectacle.

Yikes! Sounds like prison is well deserved after his continuous efforts to cheat, and a previous conviction for tax evasion for which he received a suspended sentence.
His lawyer LOL: I am playing a teeny tiny violin for him.
How can this have destroyed his reputation, when his reputation has always been that he's a jerk and a tax cheat?
