I know I'm supposed to support the Big 12 in the bowl games, but it's sooo damn hard to root for the Sooners. The last time Texas played 'Bama was the 1982 Cotton Bowl, which Texas won 14-12. It was one of several Cotton Bowls I've attended, and I can honestly say that the 'Bama fans were the nicest, friendliest opponents we encountered at any of them--even after the game. Of course, I want Texas to win big, but I won't feel nearly as bad about a loss to 'Bama as I would about a loss to USC, Miami, or Florida (Please, Tebow, go away and take your publicist with you!). YMMV, as always... ETA: Today, instead of the automatic bells to signal class changes at divaspawn1's middle school, the principal played "Texas Fight" all day until the last bell, when she played "The Eyes of Texas". Also, my favorite local yarn store has announced a 30%-off sale on all burnt orange yarn, with an additional 10% off if you come in wearing Longhorn gear. And they're closing two hours early tonight "so we can get home in time for the pregame show!" Yes, we're insane--but it's so much fun to be in the championship!

Oh, Diva, that was some bad luck in the beginning of the game, wasn't it? I did not see it, but MrB said your QB took a bad hit.
Yay, being a Tennessee fan in Alabama is going to be even more fun now! * eye roll*

An old friend of mine (de facto cousin, really) is an LSU alum, and though he hates 'Bama during the regular season he was compelled to root for them tonight ... just as I, a Mizzou grad, had to root for Texas, being that they're Big 12 and all.

Thanks, Sunny and BoroKat--actually, our defense looked really good last night and to come back within a field goal was pretty impressive. Poor Colt, though--he is truly a class act. And poor Garrett Gilbert--I hope he hasn't been totally spooked by the experience. Two things--Saban, would it kill you to crack a smile when they're presenting you with the damn trophy? Hell, even Tom Landry smiled when the Cowboys won the Super Bowl. And 'Bama, y'all were certainly worthy opponents, but surely your Southern mamas taught you that it's bad manners (not to mention tempting fate) to put on the National Championship t-shirts and hats before the game is officially over. [/petty bitch] All in all, it was a heartbreaker, but we'll come back stronger next year. Here's an amusing recap, if you're interested.

I felt so sorry for the freshman QB, bless his heart. Even with five turnovers, he still kept them in the game, though. And Colt McCoy has got to be the best Texan quarterback name EVER. It is like they groomed him from birth. This probably belongs in the Pet Peeve thread, but I love black and white hounds tooth and it bugs the fire out of me that Bama has made that their new theme. Now, every time I wear hounds tooth, someone always makes a remark about being an Alabama fan. Why does Tennessee have to be bright orange? Haha, Sunny, all the TN fans on facebook last night were reluctantly pulling for Bama just to keep it in the SEC. Even though it left a bad taste in their mouths.

It's pretty much been an unofficial theme since at least the 70s, when I was in high school. I remember people wearing Bear hats and houndstooth even then.

Argh!
I wrapped my Christmas presents in black and white hounds tooth this year and MrB never was the wiser that they were Bama colors until our Alabama alumni neighbor came over and said, "Hey, its an Alabama Christmas over here!". I really should have gone with the lime green hounds tooth instead.

Well, SEC fans, we won't have to put up with loudmouth Lane Kiffin anymore. I wish I could feel bad for Tennessee, but I don't. The man was an obnoxious, self-centered boor! Although, I've been conditioned to hate the Vols (go Dawgs!), I respected their program...until baby Kiffin came & turned it bros & hos. Bye, bye, Lane. Good luck running USC into the ground.

He fits right in with U$C's football program, then. (GO BRUINS!) Someone at the Bruins Nation blog referred to Kiffin as "the Sarah Palin of college football".

Oh man, you would not BELIEVE the uproar in Tennessee yesterday. My husband (a TN grad) was in meetings all day and I got to break the news to him. He was speechless.
I mean, they flippin' rioted in Knoxville last night! Lane really screwed us over, but it is better to learn it now before he ran the program in the ground. After the classy Phil Fulmer (who my dad refers to as The Great Pumpkin), hiring him was just a really boneheaded move. I blame the Athletic Director. His daddy was doing the coaching for him, anyways. The talk now is bringing Fulmer back as AD and I hope that they do it.
I knew we were in for a world of trouble when he admitted that he was just talking shit about other coaches to keep the Vols in the news. We don't need that kinda of publicity, asshole. And trying to take his recruits with him? That to me was the real betrayal.
