Don't worry, ponyboy, we enjoy 'dorked out' around here. Welcome to the boards! We can always use another Spader fan. ;o)
I've heard of Tuff Turf, but haven't been able to get ahold of a copy. It sounds hilarious!

Welcome Ponyboy.
I still say that the writers of BL trashed his character.

It sounds hilarious! Tuff Turf was James Spader's first starring role. I believe his first film was Endless Love. Also in the film was an actress named Kim Richards who in real life is Parasite Hilton's aunt.

I love Spader. To me, there's no other actor who could do justice to Alan Shore - just that perfect amount of pervert, brainiac and smooth/oily talker.
OT: Kim Richards was also a famous child star in her day. She was in the Disney film Escape to Witch Mountain, and starred in the sitcoms Nanny and the Professor, Hello Larry, and guest-starred on tons of stuff like Little House on the Prairie over the years.

Thanks for the welcome, Topher and Door! Even though I'm a Spader fan, I haven't watched BL. I don't have TiVo and have recording issues with my VCR. I did get to watch him deliver quite the Spaderesque monologue one time on BL when I was lucky enough to be at home at the right time. Suffice it to say, I was not disappointed.

Welcome Ponyboy. I still say that the writers of BL trashed his character. Trashed his character? I'd love to hear your thoughts, Topher! Are you maybe referring to Alan's recent bouts of melancholia? I think BL was headed for a tailspin of self-referential angst earlier this season, but they pulled back just in time. I love it when they can successfully balance quirky and touching. You bet, ponyboy! The first and second seasons of BL are out on DVD if you want to rent them.

His character just got a little too weird: the need to have someone to cuddle with, while sleeping, his constant chase of Shirley for no known reason, and only writing doing cases for the ex-CPS lawyer with the hands problem. I hate to say this but his character peaked with his childhood friend's murder case. It also seems to me that the writers took the old Alan and made him into the new lawyer that is at the firm.

James and the cast of BL have been nominated for SAG awards. Woo!
I agree that his character has gotten a little too weird. Earlier in the thread I mentioned that I thought the show was getting weird for weirdness' sake, and I hate that. The last few episodes before the break restored my faith a little though. So we'll see. I know as a Spader fan, in general, I'm biased. ;o)
