Why do I suspect that the person who takes such offense to the notes is one of the people doing the things that those notes were about? . I always have the opposite experience. The outraged parties are always those who take umbrage at being falsely accused while guilty parties just go along, blissfully ignorant to the various reprimands. I mean, they don’t even pay attention to the messes that they make, so why would they pay attention to notes about said messes?

Oh dear Lord, those people are awful! It’s just mind boggling that they keep going out of their way to include an ingredient that could literally kill the poor letter writer purely out of spite. She’s lucky her husband is solidly in her corner.

I really wish people like this would start getting charged with attempted murder. Some of the relationship forums on Reddit regularly see similar "my family/in-laws fed me my allergen" stories too. It's mindblowing how sociopathic some people are when it comes to others' food allergies. And yes, I know there are cases where people claim allergies becuase they don't like a particular food or whatever... but why would you EVER err on the side of potentially killing a person. People suck.

I'm glad Polly doesn't equivocate one bit -- they are sociopaths! Putting aside the attempted murder ... They are willing to let MUSHROOMS cause an irreparable rift in their family!?! WHY?? Control? Proving that the bitch really CAN each mushrooms, if she wants? Seriously, why? What could be the payoff here? Disturbing.

WTF is mushroom powder? I've never even heard of it, let alone cooked with it. You've got to go WAY out of your way to find that.

Trader Joe's has mushroom powder. I bought some but haven't used it yet. That column was all over my Twitter this morning. WTH? And the husband confirmed that his parents hadn't been into mushrooms before they got together. I am into mushrooms (I have a signed copy of this book!), but of course would never try to kill a son or daughter in law.

OK, that makes sense - something you can use to add umami to a dish. NOT, though, to kill your daughter-in-law.

I think they don't wish to actually kill her since they do mention that mushrooms are in the food. A killer would do a sneak attack. My guess is they want her to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Passhole-aggressholes.

Passhole-aggressholes. I have a nephew with severe nut allergies--it's not that we don't have nuts around him, it's that we make sure that there's plenty of food for him and that there's alternatives for him too. At my wedding one of the guests had a mushroom allergy, we made sure that the morel crusted steak was made morel free for them. It's not that hard to accommodate the allergies. Her in-laws for some reason seem to have decided when she first came around that this was a "fake allergy", which yes some people claim to have. So they seem to keep trying to trick her into eating mushrooms, which could kill her.
