A week's worth of flashbacks.

Actually, if Lynn sticks to her "retirement on September 1st" plan (which I'll believe come September 1, 2009), Mike's speech can lead into an eternity of flashbacks.

When people talk about "wedding" it encompasses the whole day - ceremony, reception and whatever in between. So if Mike has a speech for the wedding, I assume it's done at the reception, which is when people do speeches.
HOWEVER, I'm thinking that an Aug. 23 wedding date might mean that the wedding will be the strip's finale, with the last two weeks covering the lead-in to the big day, plus the day itself. I, like many, assume Lynn will end the strip with Liz saying those immortal words, "For better or for worse..." in the final panel.
If that's the case, then there's no chance to show any of the reception, therefore Mike's speech would have to be at the ceremony. Which would be a great opportunity to lead into a Liz flashback (sorry, April, no flashbacks for you!), but would also be really obnoxious of Mike. Which is not new, but still.
Gawd, I've given this way too much thought. Shoot me now.

So now the guy with aphasia is thinking in PUNS? There's a stretch.
And we learn, unsurprisingly, that the wedding seems to be all Pattersons - April singing, Mike doing the toast (and therefore best man, right?), Mike's kids (well plus Francoise) in the wedding party. Anthony's family? Providing the tuxes. I wonder if they'll also turn out to be as clueless and evil as Dee's family.

So now the guy with aphasia is thinking in PUNS? There's a stretch. To be fair to Lynn (which I hate doing), Jim's never been portrayed as having problems thinking - just speaking. Whereas most of the rest of the family has problems thinking but no problem speaking!

Well, this strip has been a whole lot *worse* than *better* lately, but Jim's teeth-in-the-pocket thought bubble this morning made me laugh out loud!

It's funny, yeah, but it's also a repeat. Grandpa has "bitten" himself by leaving his teeth in his pocket before.

(sorry, April, no flashbacks for you!) Does she EVER get flashbacks? It seems that when The SheetShaver recalls her days as a mother of young children, it's always just the first two. In fact, the only flashback I can recall involving The Creature is Farley's rescue of her. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And I was joking a few pages back when I said Elly's food would give Grampa another stroke, but she really IS stuffing him with everything Iris denies him (not that I approve of the denial.) And Lynn HAS just gone down the laundry list of complaints, hasn't she? I need to stop expecting better of this strip: it never fails to disappoint.

Thus far, the flashbacks have been from the first year only.

I don't recall ever seeing flashbacks about Farley and April. There haven't been any flashbacks about Liz either, not ones that focused on her anyway. They have all been about Michael the brat or John the jerk.
