My pleasure, roisin! It warms my heart to know that my back-to-back viewings of my Sunday night stories could be of use to society.
Also, I'm totally not a shipper but I really loved the way the writers used that swinging anvil to build tension. I was gchatting with my similarly obsessed friend, and when Marshall said, "I have to let you know something," my friend and I screamed. But of course, it was not what was kind of winkingly telegraphed throughout the episode.

I was watching season 1 on DVD and I totally forgot to watch the new episode! Good thing I have On Demand. I had seen but forgotten the last scene of season 1, with the chalk machine putting lines onto the baseball diamond. And it's good to see the progress that all of the character's have made. Remember, Brandi was doing the drug deal for her boyfriend Chuck because he told her if she didn't he wouldn't love her anymore? And now look at her.

You can even watch the last five episodes on Hulu! These sisterly scenes are making me wonder if James Shannon is going to show up at the wedding and some marshal or other would have to arrest him and cause a scene.

It is so nice to see the long suffering Marshall finally getting some. Although I will confess to some lingering shippyness for Mary and Marshall, his character looks so happy now that he is in a functional relationship with a normal adult female.
Stuff I didn't like: Mary downing tequila and wine while possibly pregnant. Not cool. Yes, I know her character may not actually be pregnant yet or may not know she's pregnant, but still. And: "Kids. Don't see the appeal." These moments are going to make Mary's spoilered decision to go through with having the baby all that much harder to believe. Also, are we to take from next week's previews that Mary's ex-husband is the future fetus' bio dad? That would be better than Marshall, I guess. Although not by much.

I got the impression that for the first few episodes the showrunners didn't know Mary McCormack was pregnant and thus weren't writing for it for the character.

Hmm...I was debating this with a similarly obsessed friend and we figured that it was kind of a character intensification, because all the eating and drinking seemed a little extreme, even for Mary. My theory is that the writers were doing a "hey, Mary thinks she's getting fat--UH OH! SPERM POISONING!" type of lead in. And I totally think that Mary's ex is supposed to be the dad, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's a teaser. . On other topics, it was nice to see Ron Eldard, although the daughter's hair was all over the place and kind of gross in places. I was happy to see Jinx being sassy.

Jinx and Mary conning the rich in-laws was awesome. They so rarely ever work together on anything.

As for all the spoilered stuff Mary McCormack has said that she didn't tell the producers that she was pregnant until she got through her first trimester - she's due in September, so that was probably January-March, aka the first three months of shooting. So they were about halfway through the season - and had the entire season written - when she told them, and so they scrambled and scrapped their original plans for the season to write in the pregnancy. And I'm still not convinced that was a good idea. But anyway - the drinking in this episode is just because Mary has always been portrayed as a big drinker and the writers weren't planning on her being pregnant yet. The eating thing has been a running gag for a few seasons now - last season she was constantly raiding buffets. I think this is the first episode where I've liked Jinx. I'm sure that she's a bit of a survivor and is used to manipulating people to get what she needs, but it's nice to see her using her powers for good.

I'm working my way through season 2 on DVD. I just saw the episode where Sherilyn Fenn is a lesbian counterfitter. It's the episode where Marshal notices Mary's engagement ring from Rafael and he ends up with the ring stuck on his hand. Stan and Eleanor throw Mary an impromptu engagment party, and I just noticed that one of the mylar balloons says "Get Well Soon" on it. I thought it was a nice touch.

I have yet to watch this and always forget it's on, which doesn't bode well. Maybe it's up on Demand, I'll check...
