When she married Ranier, he thought it would be undignified for a princess to act. I've never heard that her movies were banned in Monaco though. They might have been during the early years of her marriage. The people of Monaco were initially pretty hostile to her. Grace was very unhappy when she first moved to Monaco. The people did not accept her for years. They had a huge problem with Ranier marrying an American and worse, and actress. I've never heard the blow job rumor. Although from the many bios I've read, she did bed every male co-star she had except for Jimmy Stewart. Yes, even Bing Crosby which is gah to me. He was married as was Ray Milland. Clark Gable too, who I think was older than her father. Again blech, false teeth.I think she had a Daddy complex because her father was a complete asshole. When she won the Oscar he said "I thought Peggy (her older sister) would have won it."

According to Robert Lacey's book, he also said: "I simply can't believe Grace won. Of the four children, she's the last one I'd expected to support me in my old age". How very charming.
She is my favourite Hollywood "Golden Age" star. One of the reasons I hate Gwyneth Paltrow so much is that when she wore that ill-fitting bubblegum pink Oscar gown, she was for some unknown reason compared to Grace Kelly.

Wow, I'm an incredibly harsh critic of acting skills, but I think she was wonderful.
It does have to be remembered that she acted in a time when acting was less naturalistic. And some people have a hard time getting past the Mid Atlantic accent everyone was sporting in those days because it sounds false to our ears.
Of course, I might just be blinded by the pretty.

I think she was stunning but i do think her acting was a bit variable. She was great in Rear Window but I agree with Coffeecakes that she sucked in Dial M for Murder.

I saw a special on her life on either A&E or E! a couple years ago, and toward the end of her life she introduced adaptations of (I think) fairy tales on TV. They said she was happy to be back doing something acting-related, and I'm pretty sure the programs were all aimed at children, so it was okay in a "the Princess supports education and culture" kind of way.
Acting, especially for women, has a history of being seen as a low-class profession, so it's not surprising to me that her husband, with his conservative background as the member of a royal family, thought it would be inappropriate for her to continue acting. It would seem stranger to me if Kelly didn't expect him to feel that way, actually.

Her ice blue Oscar dress (photographed on the Life cover) is the epitome of elegance and timeless glamour - it would look gorgeous today or 50 years in the future. This is a lesson for the slouchy slebs of today in their red carpet rags and unkempt hair.
I highly recommend the book "The Bridesmaids" by Judith Balaban-Quine - it's written by one of Grace Kelly's bridemaids and best friends and it talks about the ocean voyage and the wedding and their friendship over their lifetime. It's well-written and full of fascinating details - I think it's out of print now, but you can look for it at used bookstores.
My favorite performance - To Catch a Thief. The only thing better than Grace Kelly is Grace Kelly and Cary Grant!

There is no one today who compares to the beauty of the actresses of her day.

I think so. Grace was obsessed with dieting when she was acting. Her roommate once told of how they ate nothing but steaks to lose weight. She was ahead of her time with the no carbs. I think later in life, when Ranier was having affairs and she was unhappy, she drank and ate too much and kind of let herself go. But she was very thin back in the day.
