I thought so, too, so I'm looking forward to seeing the final version which I... um, er, acquired overnight. I did see that the opening credits have changed quite a bit. I liked the old ones. The new ones seem more... button-punching. Which is Alan Ball's achilles heel, I think. Don't use a sledgehammer when you could open a door with your hand, Alan.

Overall I like the new opening credits, though some of it is indeed over the top. I hope this show succeeds and keeps true to the heart of the books. I love the Sookieverse so.

I'll admit to squeeing a bit over "GOD HATES FANGS".

That cracked me up, too, and it was a total "blink and you'll miss it" moment.
I'm kind of meh on this so far. It's a clever concept and I really like Anna Paquin (although she is so wide-eyed and looks so awestruck sometimes that I just want to smack her). We'll see if I like it.
And I'm bitter and don't want to like a new vampire show because I'm still mourning the loss of the weekly hotness of Alex O'Loughlin on my TV.
I can't decide if I like Tara or am offended by the "sassy black girl" stereotype. I'm hoping they flesh out her character and make her a little less one-note.

I've read all the books, and maybe I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention, but I always thought the Tara character was white in the books - partly because of what happens in book 2, and the "club" seems to be pretty segregated (hence the big deal that Lafayette gets invited).

Tara is white in the books. However, since they've totally reconfigured her character I don't know how much of her book story arc will remain.

I thought the second episode was better than the first, and I've got my fingers crossed that this show can fill the void left by the cancellation of Moonlight. The books are totally unfamiliar to me, so maybe that will help.

Oh, the second episode is definitely better than the first! It made me a sucker for Bill and Sookie all over again, even though I've read all the books and am familiar with the story. A lot of secondary characters get fleshed out, too. I've also read rumors that the writing gets tons better once the Alan Ball-scripted ones are over, but YMMV on that.
