You didn't miss it, Cranky-- it's just that some of us found alternative methods of watching it. I usually don't spoil myself for new shows but since the first episode was kind of uneven I HAD to know if things got better, got worse, or stayed the same.

Who is Eric? Is that my Scandanavian Prince? ? Why yes. Yes it is. I've read the books, they're good cheesy fun, so I was excited for the show...but I was disappointed. Sookie just seemed overly perky and Tara just pissed me off. On the other hand--Bill was, IMO, a lot more attractive then the books made him out to be. On the other hand, I was also jetlagged and watching at 2 am so I might not have been the best judge. I'll keep giving it a chance for a few more episodes.

Sookie was extremely perky. Also, a question to you book readers: Is she always so offhandish about her telepathy? She seemed pretty self-conscious about it at times in the bar but then blabbed it to Bill. Does everyone in town basically know about her gift/curse?

In the books, Sookie's telepathy is acknowledged by some of the townspeople, but in a backhanded or halfhearted way. Like, a police detective suspects she has "powers," so he sits in her section and thinks really disgusting thoughts until she snaps at him. But most people seem to think she's just a little dotty or eccentric.

Ah, interesting! Thanks bunny. I think I may need to read a book or two to gain perspective.

I recommend you read the books in order. While Harris tries not to give away the plot points of previous books some spoilerage is inevitable. The earlier books were written pre-Katrina so take that into account.
I don't like the way Sam the bartender is written. In the books he is very careful to keep a professional relationship with Sookie. I thought he was too puppyish. And the actor ought to have red hair! I do like Lafayette, there is more to his character than in the books.

I just think the actor who plays the bartender really sucks. Same with the brother. In general, I think the male actors are awful. So... when does ERIC appear??? please say next episode...
