In addition to his gig at Comedy Central, Chappelle had been working on a book for Hyperion. There has been no word on the book's status; there's also no word on the reported Rick James biopic for Paramount in which Chappelle would portray the late R&B wild man.

The generous part of me is hoping that Chappelle's newfound popularity has just made him think he can write a book, do a movie, and continue to do a whole season of his show all at once and it finally broke him down into doing neither. But the realistic part is making me wonder if this MIA stuff isn't Chappelle falling into hard drug use ala Rick James and throwing this all away or if he got involved with something heavier due to stress.

Either way, it's not a good thing. I think the movie and the book could have waited until after the Season was over. It's only 13 episodes, he could do the hard work there and then finish up the rest later. Either way, success might have gone to his head, but it's the drugs that I'm worried about.

Multiple sources are now reporting that Dave is having "personal issues." Variety would only say that, but Defamer says this-

According to a conversation between the [someone playing a key role on the show] and [someone else affiliated with someone on the show], Dave Chappelle has completely gone off his rocker. He is basically AWOL and in need of some serious psychological help. I don't mean this figuratively. Kiss the season goodbye, and most likely Chappelle will be sued for breach of contract. The guy is just acting nuts right now.

It appears that the rumors are mainly mental health related as opposed to drug related. But of course, those could be related. Whatever it is, I hope he gets the help he needs.

Wow. I'm stunned. I'm also pissed because I just got an email from the production company yesterday to reserve seats for the tapings this weekend. My friends and I were all excited about going to see the show, but now I guess that's dead. If the company responds, I'll let you know.

Oh Christ. I want to say that this is some kind of joke (remember the Oprah sketch and how we'd 'never see his black ass again?', hint hint?) but honestly, maybe he's just gone insane on the old reefer and can't control himself anymore. Such a freaking waste, the man is funny, it's just a damn shame he couldn't control it and do a good third season.

I want to think that Charlie Murphy is one of those that thinks Chappelle needs help. He's probably seen it before (and would have told us if the third season had gone through).
