I have read about this 'theory' on several other messageboards and honestly, I don't believe any of that shit. Whatever drove that fool off the air was something personal, in my opinion, and I say so long to complete rot. I agree with you; I mean it's not like he's a world leader or something. A lot of people in the US probably don't even know who he is, talk about self-importance. Everybody's stressed. If he thinks his job is tough, he should come and work in academia, or drive a subway train. For the kind of money he was making, I'll fucking deal with the stress.

Agreed! I can't say that I feel to sorry for him. Nor will I be watching Oprah to see what his reasons are. Wouldn't his decision have screwed over a lot of behind the scenes workers? I've really lost interest in Chappelle due to this whole thing. But since he couldn't handle the limelight...maybe that's what he wanted.

I think he's a little off, but a lot of what he is saying I can understand. None of us (I don't think) is making $50 million dollars, so we don't know what can happen and how people react when you start making that kind of money. He is a regular guy who all of a sudden started making mad money and found that those people he thought he could trust, he couldn't. Leaving the country is not something I would do, but I can understand how he felt that people were trying to undermine and take something away from him.
Hell, I feel that people on my job are trying to undermine me at times, I don't even make 50 grand, let alone 50 million.

I honestly don't think that Chappelle was the most stable guy to begin with.

I am watching him right now on Oprah.... Is he high like a kite or is it me? Do you think he is that bold?

I thought his Oprah appearance was interesting, but it wasn't as riveting as I had hoped it would be.
Has he always seemed that spaced out in his interviews? I didn't necessarily think he looked high, but he did seem off. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't take a light downer before he went out there. Like a valium or whatever.
And everything he said about Neal Brennan kind of surprised me. Like he said that Brennan told the press something disparaging about him (Chappelle), and then Oprah reminded him that Brennan may have been misquoted, and Chappelle said that he understands that and will give him the benefit of the doubt. So he didn't straighten it out personally with Neal before he went on TV to talk about it? If I were in Dave's position I would have tried to reach a resolution with some of the people he talked about before he went on Oprah to tell his story.

That may have been one of the most refreshing celebrity interviews I've seen in a while. It seemed like he was speaking off the cuff, no scripted answers, like he was figuring things out as he was saying them.
He was confused and stressed out and needed to take himself out of the situation to see what was going on. Take himself away from the people who's motives he was questioning.
Was he high? I doubt it. A valium, maybe. I'm a fan of gossip and speculation but I do get sick of us assuming the worst about someone. I saw Dave perform extremely high one night, years ago. He was absolutely hilarious. On point, the whole time. He performed for so long he eventually came down. His speech slowed a bit and he ended up just sitting on the stool and chatting for about an hour. He was not high on Oprah. No way.
We're so used to hearing the same story after somebody loses it, goes mental, ends up in rehab. Anyone of us can write the follow up script. It's the same rehashed psycho babble statements. Same buzz words. Dave was honest, still unsure what exactly happened. His perception of the events that led up to his "disappearance" will probably continue to shift as time goes on.

I've got to agree with you WitchyPoo. He seemed very concerned as to how he was going to come across, and everytime Oprah tried to repeat what he was saying, in her way, she kept getting it wrong. I think towards the end the show, she finally caught on to what he had been trying to say. He realized how people were just using him. They were no longer laughing with him, but at him. Quite a realization. I felt bad for the guy. To have the people you think are your friends, and find out that they aren't. I'm glad he called their bluff, and took off. What a way to screw them all.
