Because of Dwan's rec and fact that it was listed as part of the "holy trinity" of shopping & fucking novels by the Salon article from which this thread originated (alongside 'Fear of Flying' and 'Blue Skies, No Candy'), I have looked for a dozen times at bookstores for Krantz's Scruples, to no avail. Maybe when I visit Dawnie Dearest, we can venture to some trashy used bookstores in the area. From page one: We should have a Jacqueline Susann book club this summer! Can we finally do this? Pretty please? I'm pretty sure Dwan granted me authority over the Book Club Thread.

How have you never read Scruples? Damn, send me your address and I'll media mail it to you. It's a must read.
We could make it the next book club selection!

Scruples is absolutely awesome. It might be time for me to re-read it again.

IMO, Scruples is pretty crude, but to each his own.

I decided to cast a new VotD for my own amusement. Leighton Meister as Neely, Jennifer Lawrence as Jennifer, and Dianna Agron as Anne.

I haven't yet seen Winter's Bone, but I fully approve of Leighton & Dianna in those roles! I think the last time I watched it at Dwan's Bad Movie Night, we suggested Megan Fox as Jennifer and Faye Dunaway as Helen Lawson. Waaaaaaaay back in high school (so 11+ years ago), our choices were Gwyneth or Reese Witherspoon as Anne, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Jennifer and Jude Law as Lyon.
I really think they should re-do the Susann books as HBO miniseries.

My friend status-updated last night that he was hanging out with Miss Neely O'Hara herself, Patty Duke (her son has joined the cast of my friend's play). We all demanded that he get her to say, *SPARKLE*, Neely, *SPARKLE.

We all demanded that he get her to say, *SPARKLE*, Neely, *SPARKLE. Awesome! Count me in on the Book Club, hunter. I have Jacqueline Susann's "holy trilogy" as well as the Scruples books, and I also have some spare Sidney Sheldon novels as well as an old copy of Lady Boss around here (and it's been ages since I have read them) so hopefully I will be ready for whatever crappy and fantastic brain candy you pick for us to read!
