If you make Billie's carb-y indulgence, don't forget the bacon!
Huntergrayson, I haven't read that article in years! ZOMG! Even then I was annoyed that Jackie Collins wasn't name checked. Beloveds, I learned about Rodeo Drive from reading Hollywood Wives. And I learned about blow jobs from Chances! Lucky Santangelo, there was a fabulous bitch.
Anyway, that article one of the COMPLETELY inappropriate exchanges between Mike and January:
That's...really fucked up.
Y'all do know that Peyton Place The Series is coming to DVD in about a month from Shout Factory, right? I'm saving my pennies as we speak.

Hey, I learned about buttsecks from Chances!
I wish the made-for-tv-movies of some of this shit was available on DVD. I don't want to tell you how much I spent on an eBay auction 5 years ago for the VHS of Mistral's Daughter....

Ditto for when they did VotD as a miniseries in the 80s. I think clips might be on one of the featurettes on the DVD.

I would put a bitch's wig in a toilet and flush if Lucky Chances would come out on DVD (it was so like, omg so tragically romantic when Marco went down in a blaze of bullets after one beautiful, perfect night with Lucky, a night that followed years of silent sexual torment...I believe it also kick started my adolescent fantasies).
Lots of women studies curricula have embraced Peyton Place, love Gael Green, Mary McCarthy, and Erica Jung but still consider Susann, Krantz, Collins, and the rest to be some sort of insult to feminism. Do you know what I learned from Lucky Santangelo? I learned that when I grew up I could have fabulous sex, drive fast cars, reject traditional feminine roles, boss people around, and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it. Then eventually I could marry a great guy, have kids, and still have great sex, drive fast cars, and pursue my own goals. I find that to be empowering image of a woman.
Oh! Oh! If we are talking about fucking and shopping novels, I can't believe we haven't brought up Princess Daisy! Talk about shopping- Daisy bought vintage couture, damn it! There were Faberge eggs and knickknacks cluttering the pages! Her brother wanted to have sex with her! Her father was Russian royalty. Her mother figure was a high class call girl.
It does not get better than Princess Daisy.

We should have a Jacqueline Susann book club this summer! I am SO in! Great idea, PeggyLane! Best idea ever. I just ordered the Love Machine & Once is Not Enough omnibus from amazon. I can't wait to get my trashy read on. Yay for expedited shipping!

We haven't even mentioned the book some call the first chick lit novel..."The Best of Everything." Rona Jaffe. Women in gloves. Men in Brooks Brothers. Abortions. Divorces. It's all there, and it's all so good. It makes you want to go live in Manhattan in 1957.
