Word. Except, in January's case, the title would have to be changed to, "Your Dad's Just Not That Into You."
Maggie is my favorite of the TLM girls. There's the previously mentioned incident, and also she eventually went and did her own thing, instead of following him around like an idiot. I finished the book tonight, and I'm surprised that she never told Robin about miscarrying his baby. I thought that would come up again.
Alfie's house being located on Swallow Drive made me giggle. I'm 12.

I haven't re-finished TLM yet, but am finally on Judith's section.
All that said, Neely remains my favorite Susann gal. Jennifer North comes a close second. It sucks how much they cut for the movie because Jennifer's story is just so richly tragic.
I really do have to watch OINE but I doubt the movie will do justice to Karla's tragedy either.
This really is why I do need the rights to her novels. Since they cut sooo much of VOTD but the way it is told is thru an interlocking narrative from three-protagonists (but who, interestingly enough, are always "objective"), I think a really cool way to adapt it would be as a miniseries - one part for Anne, one for Neely and one for Jennifer. You could do the same with TLM.
Heck, that format was ripped off completely for Hollywood Divorces but Jackie's trio of bitches were sooooo lame in comparison.

Ha. I did that too. The ending is genius. Hunter, That sounds like a good idea. Who would you cast in the Anne, Jennifer, and Neely roles? When I was reading TLM, I kept picturing Amanda looking like this model.

Oh my god, Maggie Stewart just gave "no comment" to the magazine article about whether Robin Stone is The Love Machine.
BURN!
Back in high school, around 97ish, my friend and I thought Reese Witherspoon as Anne, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Jennifer and Jude Law or Clooney as Lyon Burke. Casting has changed since but I think Liza would HAVE to play Helen Lawson in tribute to her mom.
The normalcy of TLM is kinda a let down after the insanity of OINE. Then it's onto reading VOTD for the tenth time.
Bless her heart, a friend texted me this morning and said "I'm thinking of finally reading VOTD on the plane to Amsterdam. Any other recommendations?" I feel so honored that she thought of me first.
I told Dwanollah that for marketing purposes, I'd be all "January is Anne! Anne is January!" angle. January Jones would make a fantastic Anne. Betty Draper totally has an Anne vibe. And I think Anne Hathaway would make an interesting January. I have a hard time picturing what January and Amanda "should" look like.
Neely is obviously the role Lohan was born to play. She's living it off-screen.
So, sadly, the Wiki pages for TLM and OINE are pretty blank. Was there any speculation as to whether some of the characters were based on real-life counterpoints like in VOTD.
Gloss is obviously a Cosmo wannabee and Linda is Helen Gurley Brown, right? Even though Cosmo exists in the OINE world as their competition.

Funny you should mention that, since I just read this New York Times article about TLM and it says Robin may have been based on the former president of CBS. I love the idea of January as Anne and LL as Neely. Now I'm cracking myself up picturing LL singing "It's Impossible." Hehe. There weren't as many batshit moments in TLM, but I liked that were so many characters in this one and they all had interesting arcs.

The posters on Datalounge once started a Wiki page for Neely O'Hara written as though she was a real actress (some of their Neely threads are hilarious) and it stayed up for months before anyone notice and re-edited it.

I'm pretty sure when Lohan's Facebook or Myspace was being regularly hacked, someone found that she had made some Neely references. Too funny. The best part of that article? It took me a second to realize it that the byline by Nora Ephron meant *that* Nora Ephron. The second best part? This quote: Ohhhh, Sigourney Weaver as Judith Austin. You could do an awesome scene where her fictional character meets her real-life dad (Pat Weaver was a hugely influential TV exec in the 40s-50s). What about casting OINE? I think Denueve would be my first choice as Karla. Dwan and I think Paul Newman in his older years would be a great Mike. But non-Zombie casting, we'd go with Clooney. I squealed with delight at TLM when Dip asked Robin, "What does Ike Ryan got on you? Did you beat up another hooker? ." Oh no he didn't! OMFG it's the return of Slugger! Wow, it has been a really long day - I only had 50 pages of TLM to finish today and am just now getting around to it. Can't wait to see how it all ends. ETA: Holy shit. Concussion via being hit with an Oscar statue. Awesome. What do you think it says about Susann that the dreamy-studs in her books are always novelists (or aspiring novelists ala Lyon & Robin), but the none of the women are writers? January is a columnist, sure, but I don't think of her as a "writer." I can't believe OINE isn't on DVD. The Linda role got a Best Supporting Actresses nom. Little known fact: legendary composer John Williams first Oscar nomination was for VOTD. I don't think he wrote it though, he "adapted & conducted" it or something. If I had the skill, I would totally do a mash-up between VOTD footage and his other scores. I totally want the Jaws theme playing whenever Helen Lawson is about to appear.

HaHa. I wouldn't be surprised if she watched VOTD too many times at an impressionable age. It would explain a lot.
I know! That whole part at Alfie's house was so great.
Zombie Garbo would be my first choice for Karla. That's who I was picturing when I read the book. I know she's Swedish, not Polish, but still.

Please, Susann all but wrote in red pen in the margins, "Karla is Garbo."
I mean, I don't think Garbo was gang-banged in a convent but she & Dietrich are definitely who Susann drew Karla from.
So, the pop-up trivia track on the VOTD DVD is chockful of useful info. Candice Bergin was Anne Welles! But she dropped out two weeks before shooting.
I haven't seen young Candice in anything but am dying trying to imagine Murphy Brown as Anne Welles.
