The disco, cha cha (?? I missed the intro, so I took my best guess after watching the flailing) and the mineshaft stepping were all huge fails for me. I wonder why they waited until the finale to try out these dances styles when they had an entire season full of people who could have sucked just as adeptly as the final four did. Don't they usually reserve the best performances for the Top 4 show?
Katie Holmes...is pretty. That's all I can say about her contribution.

If Melanie wins, she'll be my least favorite winner, and that's including Sabra who at least got tested. I hate thus season because it was just so full of judges manipulation. They're supposed to stop sending people home by the Top 10 but they continued until the people they wanted in the finals were safe. Caitlyn and Ricky couldn't possibly have challenged the top 4. It's disgusting.

They were all amazing, the women were really strong and beautiful and Melanie and Tadd were magical. The dance routines were all so refreshing and fantastic. Yeah, the Bot was absolutely useless. She made me appreciate Mary Murphy so much more. When Mary isn't screaming or being annoying (which is rare I admit) she can be a really good judge. I wasn't that impressed with this year's finale though. I will be happy if either Sasha or Melanie wins. I think they are both exceptional dancers and they have been my picks from the start. I loved seeing Mark and I don't mean the Dancing with the Stars jerk.

I was pretty underwhelmed with last night's dances; I think last week was much better.
I threw votes for Sasha & Marko, despite Marko's mediocre disco and terrible stepping. That step routine was baaaaaad. As was the cha cha. I still think it's lame that Melanie has only had a couple of dances outside her comfort zone through the entire show.
And I agree re: the judges making the decisions until last week. It's not really "America's favorites" when the judges were choosing throughout the top 10, although I suspect that Melanie, Marko, and Sasha would have been there at the end regardless.
Finally, Katie Holmes was even more useless than I thought she'd be. Strong, amazing, magical . . . blech! And the comments about the costumes were lame, too. I've spent too much time in her thread because I immediately thought she's trying to reinforce her fashionista storyline.

The disco was terrible but they have done it plenty of time in previous seasons and it is usually a crowd pleaser. The problem is this season they did not have a single male dancer who could lift his partner. The finale was pretty underwhelming. There was one dance I loved (Sasha and Mark), three that were terrible (disco, stepping and chacha) and a couple of mediocre broadway numbers, a so so krumping and a couple of typical floaty contemporary dances. I agree that this season feels even more manipulated than usual. Notice how they didn't even pretend that the dances were drawn out of a hat like they did in the past? The thing is I really liked Melanie at the start but the constant fawning by the judges not to mention that she only got two dances out of her wheelhouse (and she tanked them both) made me kind of sour on her too. I also thought it was needlessly mean of Nigel to tell Marko and Tadd that he thinks a girl is going to win. Everybody knows that, I am sure they are well aware of it. What purpose does it serve to rub it in? And both Katie Holmes and Kenny Ortega were terrible judges. They should have brought back the guy from Modern Family and Neil Patrick Harris instead.

I loved the tap routine! It just put me in a good mood. I also really liked seeing the Top 10 girls/guys routines again.
Happy for Melanie, even though as the revealed the results, I realized I wasn't really attached to any of the finalists this year. Wish they would have chosen a wider variety of "favorite" routines, but it was cool to see "Another One Bites the Dust" without the rogue hat on the stage!

Melanie is very good at what she does, but as you've all noted, she was lucky enough to get to do it a lot. Sasha was really good at a lot of stuff, and I really feel like she should have won. But it's America's (coughJudgescough) Favourite Dancer, not necessarily the best and most versatile dancer.

I didn't watch the whole season through and while I liked Melanie, I really don't think she was as strong as Sasha. I also loved that the Asian boys were in the top 4!

I preferred Sasha, but I liked Melanie a lot too, so I can't complain. I don't know that I'd watch the show again, but I enjoyed the season.

Hi there is a clip that I'm trying to track down, but I can't even search for it on youtube and the like, as I don't know which season it was, or the name of the contestant in question. I am not a regular viewer of SYTYCD, and hence although this moment really stuck with me, and I'd love to re-watch it, the only details I can give are as follows; the clip was of an eliminated contestants goodbye speech. It was a woman, I think with black hair, and was presented with flowers by Cat Deeley (that may be relevant as I'm guessing that a flower presentation probably only happens fairly far on in the series). Basically this girl gave a great speech, along the lines that she had once read that quote 'youth is wasted on the young' and she didn't want to ever be able to look back on her life and say that and her experience on this show was all a part of that. It was a really emotional quite joyous speech. Other clues as to when / who this might have been are that I saw the clip 2 - 3 years ago, but since I;m living in Pakistan I don't know if it was an old series they were re-running or whether it was the current series at that time. As I said Cat Deeley was the presenter at the time, the girl had black hair, was presented with flowers, oh and she *might* have had black hair, although I can't quite recall. Anyone have any idea of who and which episode this was so that I can re-watch that ep? Many thanks!
