Carolinian, so Lombard St. is normally all wind-y and twisty like that? Is it for traffic or just a nice little promenade for strolling? The aerial pic is awesome, and I've never played Candyland in my life.

Lombard Street is very steep, so the street was designed with a series of hairpin curves so cars could go down it (it's one way). It's called the crookedest street in the world. Wikipedia. Google images. I've only seen it in pictures. I can't begin to imagine living there. Think of how crowded and noisy it must be.

I've walked down the staircase visible on the left side of this picture. The photo is kind of deceptive: There was hardly any car traffic when I was there--certainly not the number of cars shown in the picture. I would call it more of a landmark than a real through street.

Part of the awesome car-chase scene in What's Up, Doc? was filmed on Lombard. And there are Bigwheel races down Lombard every Easter Sunday.

We lived two blocks from there! We used to drive down it to get home (but not on, say, a Saturday afternoon). Those pix are AWESOME!

From the article:
Dissatisfied? I don't think that would even begin to cover it.

Ten million years of evolution separate us, and yet gorillas aren't so different after all.
