So did anyone watch the much hyped premiere?
As with most first episodes, it just didn't grab me. Until Ian Somerholder's (?sp) character showed up it was a bit of a snoozefest and oh so Twilight-y. I'll give it a few more episodes to see where its going though.
True Blood it ain't.

It wasn't bad. I like the villain/brother character (he's pretty) and am glad that this show isn't as chaste as Twilight. I'll continue to watch, if only because it's on before Supernatural. I'm also happy it's not like True Blood since I fast forward through most of that show (scenes with Eric, Pam and Lafayette excepted.) It would be nice if this actually got good instead of just 'not bad' though.

I'm getting tired of seeing "good" vampires like the main character Stefan leading these tortured, angsty, self-loathing lives. You'd think after living for a few centuries that one would lighten up a bit and enjoy things.

Yeah, definitely more Twilight than True Blood.

Well, the book this show is based on was written and published a few years before Twilight. Soooo, I would say that Twilight is more VD. I actually find VD much better than Twilight, story wise. At least Elena has a spine.

Lame, lame, lame. It was almost as awful as Twilight.
If I wanted to see a human-vampire romance set in high school, I'd dig out my Buffy DVDs.

Ian Somerhalder was the only good thing about this.

I liked it. I think the story is MUCH better than Twilight, and the acting wasn't bad. It's been the highest rated premier for The CW, so it looks like it won't be going anywhere.

Yeah, definitely more Twilight than True Blood. That's to be expected, though. Like Twilight, these books were written for teens (and I totally agree with prada that TVD is a much better story, although some of the story points they changed bug). Well, the book this show is based on was written and published a few years before Twilight. Actually, Edward wasn't even a sparkle (sorry!) in Stephanie Meyer's eye, Diaries has nearly 15 years on Twilight (and predates Buffy and the True Blood books, as well). Of course, I realize that Twilight's success is likely the primary reason TVD is finally being adapted after 18 years so the comparisons are expected. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Was very leery about the casting of all the leads but I didn't dislike anybody enough to not continue watching. Both Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley are too old for their roles, so that annoys me but I'll get over it. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd be bothering if I wasn't a fan of the books, but I'm interested enough to see how the adaptation pans out, at least for a while. Nice to see the premiere numbers were good.

So are these characters in high school? Based on the previews I seriously thought it was about people in their 30s. They all looked old (and by old, I mean my age, hah). Then I saw an extended promo and it looked like they were in high school...
