I knew it as soon as I saw the People cover.
May you have a fabulous rest, Betty and thank you for all the wonderful memories you’ve bestowed upon us. We were blessed.

An easy death asleep in her own bed at 99 is the best anyone can hope for. Well, I can hope she was having bawdy hilarious dreams on her way out. RIP, Betty!

I read something that said maybe Betty didn’t want everyone to be mad at 2022 and I liked that.

I had a really hard time with this one. Her passing and Prince just made me sob. I had a feeling that them getting ahead of themselves with all the 100 year press was a massive tempting of fate and I think doing something if she made it would have been better suited.
In my experience with family research, people tend to die close to their birthdays. I don't know why and it's not always the case, but it happens a lot more frequently than one might think. I was angry upon hearing the news because we get shitty news all the time, especially as of late, and this was just not what one wanted to hear. I feel for her family and those that loved and got to call her friend.
A positive reflection is that she was never suffering, not in pain or illness and I'd like to think that the good Lord felt it was her time and that she deserved a quiet, peaceful, and fitting departure for being such an incredible human being. A life well done. Farewell, sweet Betty!

When I was in college, we only got a handful of cable channels that our school provided in the dorms. One was Lifetime. Golden Girls was comfort food for us. We used to skip class on shitty weather days and we'd lay in bed and watch Golden Girls. Rose, Blanche, Sophia and Dorothy were a constant in our lives. Breakups, sickness, finals stress.. they were there for us. I hope she walked into heaven and said "So this is what St Olaf's is really like"
Rest well Betty, you and the other ladies were visual comfort food for so many of us and we're forever grateful

A life well done. Farewell, sweet Betty! This is why I’ve found I’m not sad at her passing. She died at home, in her own bed, at 99 years old, knowing that she was beloved the world over. That’s a life damn well-lived. I just think, “Well done, Betty.” I’m not sad - she did it right and it’s worth celebrating.

My favorite so far was a picture of her with Ludden that was captioned 'when you're 99 years old and know exactly who you want to spend your 100th birthday with.'

My favorite so far was a picture of her with Ludden that was captioned 'when you're 99 years old and know exactly who you want to spend your 100th birthday with.' That fills me with an image of Betty crossing into heaven. She is met by her parents, who she is elated to see. Other family members are next and then friends. Bea Arthur welcomes her with a hug. She and Rue shed tears while they hug. Estelle and she laugh and hug. The whole time she's being welcomed and congratulated she seems to be looking for someone. She gives people her full attention, but she's just always looking around over their shoulder. And then, suddenly there he is, she calls his name and they run into each other's arms and she sobs, "I missed you so much!" And she is suddenly just glowing with joy, she is utterly complete, at peace and happy, and while she was like that before, it has just amped up by 10,000 watts. However you believe the afterlife works, just imaging it working like that puts me at peace with her passing.
