Betty White once told this story: She and Lucille Ball were good friends, and they were taping an episode of the game show Password a few weeks after Desi Arnaz had died of cancer in 1986. Lucy was usually very good at word games, but she was having a difficult time that day - taking long pauses and struggling with the clues.

During a break in the taping, Lucy came over to Betty White and apologized for playing so poorly. She said: “Desi’s death wasn’t unexpected, and I knew it was coming, but goddamnit . . . I didn’t expect that I would feel this sad.” And BW gave her a hug and they shared that moment and mourned his death together.

For whatever reason, when I read the news about Betty White’s passing, I thought of that story. She truly was a class act until the very end. May she Rest in Peace.

My brother, who is notorious for not following the news carefully, had my mother tell him about Betty White’s death, and it bummed him out. There’s something special about a human being that when that person passes, everyone mourns them because of how special they were. It does make me happy that she was known how well she was loved before she died.

I saw a tweet that made me smile and tear up at the same time. It said: "The password is...REUNITED."

NBC is airing Betty's episode of SNL tonight. I know I'll be watching!

That fills me with an image of Betty crossing into heaven. She is met by her parents, who she is elated to see. Other family members are next and then friends.

Bea Arthur welcomes her with a hug. She and Rue shed tears while they hug. Estelle and she laugh and hug.

The whole time she's being welcomed and congratulated she seems to be looking for someone. She gives people her full attention, but she's just always looking around over their shoulder.

And then, suddenly there he is, she calls his name and they run into each other's arms and she sobs, "I missed you so much!" And she is suddenly just glowing with joy, she is utterly complete, at peace and happy, and while she was like that before, it has just amped up by 10,000 watts.

However you believe the afterlife works, just imaging it working like that puts me at peace with her passing.

And then, hand-in-hand, they strolled off to pay a visit at The Rainbow Bridge, per Betty's request.

There's a thing going around on social media - on her birthday, contribute $5 in her honor to your favorite animal shelter or wildlife conservation organization.

I support several such organizations, and I'm planning to make donations in Betty's honor that day. She loved animals so much and was a champion for animal welfare.
