I loved the bit with Claire calling after the middle daughter to embarass her in front of her friends. That's what I threaten Batboy with if he acts up in public.

Oh, go to the TWOP thread for this show. Half the posters agree with you (and me) that Claire's bit was funny, while the other was half think she was horrible and abusive and "I love my children too much to ever do that to them" types.
But there are a lot of Claire haters there for some reason, so I suspect that if Gloria (whom they all love) had done the same thing, it would have been wonderfully hilarious.

Glad to see the Mommy Wars are alive and well in the world of pretend parents at TWOP.

I've noticed that, and I guess it's more of the "some people take TV way too seriously" thing that goes on over there. I personally thought it was hilarious. I know that I probably was a shit to my mom at that age, and she probably would have loved to do something like that.

I had to stop reading the TWOP thread back during one of the earlier episodes. Mitch and Cam were talking about how they met and it had something to do with a game of charades and the response was "Casablanca." The little visual joke in the show was that Mitch just had to put his hands out, as if he was playing a keyboard, and Cam knew the answer was "Casablanca."
That thread had pages of posts from people not getting it and over-analyzing it (of course). When one person said she thought Mitch was miming cat paws, for Cats-ablanca, I stopped reading and haven't been back since.

I'm a parent of a child just that smart ass age and I thought Claire's response was hilarious. I cheered. Yes, not that I'd have the courage (or will, really) to ever do that in real life, but I damn sure can guarantee you that it's what we've all wanted to do at some point.
And sometimes, I don't want reality in my television...I want fun! And opportunities for fantasy revenge...
That being said? Claire is waaaay too skinny lately.

When one person said she thought Mitch was miming cat paws, for Cats-ablanca, I stopped reading and haven't been back since. Yeeeeaaaah. It's stuff like this that blows my mind. I mean, I know that I can get into a show and examine the nitty-gritty, but some of these people are just nuts. Like on an episode of 30 Rock when Liz was confessing her worst stuff and mentioned a time when she was at a buffet and pooped her pants a little but still went back for another plate of shrimp. This actually devolved into serious discussion/speculation about whether or not Liz had something like IBS or some other problem. I just wanted to smack them all and yell, "People! It was a poop joke. You weren't meant to think about it beyond that!" This is just like how they always, ALWAYS trot out the Asperger's diagnosis whenever there is a shy or socially awkward character. Anyway - I stopped with the MF thread back a couple episodes ago when Alex was going on about how she didn't want to go to her school dance, and Claire, knowing her daughter, assured her "Someone will dance with you" - showing that she realized that Alex did want to go, but was afraid that she'd be standing alone in the corner all night. That was clearly what the show was trying to say, and it was punctuated by the shot of Alex dancing with a boy, smiling and happy. But some people there just freaked out, insisting that Alex isn't that way at all. She's truly an outsider who really doesn't want to go to the dance and how dare Claire foist her expectations upon her daughter!! That is stuff that Haley and Claire would want! Dancing with a boy is sooooo not what Alex would want! She's an individual and unique! And then poor Alex felt pressured to go along it and ended up at the dance where surely she was truly miserable despite that smile on her face. This went on for pages. Yeah. Project much?

TWoP can be a scary place. I was really enjoying the Jersey Shore thread until it veered off for 20 pages about date-rape laws. They ruin everything.

I quit the Modern Family thread because I got tired of all the obsessing over how much Phil is like Michael from The Office and how old Phil and Claire were when they got married and if they "had" to get married, and how can Claire afford to stay at home in this economy, and if Gloria is indeed a gold digger...
