Finally saw it and while it was a good film I was let down in terms of scarieness. It did a great job leading up to the last few minutes and there was some creepy stuff along the way but really at the end I was just left thinking that was it? Maybe I got too excited for it but I am glad I got it from Netflix rather than buying it which I almost did.

From what little I saw of it, it was scary. I have really bad "reverse" motion sickness and spent most of the wobbly parts of the movie with my hands in front of my eyes to calm my stomach.
Fortunately, most of the good parts are when the camera is on a tripod!

I am going to take back what I said as I gave it a second chance and watched again last night. I don't know why but for some reason knowing what is going to happen had me on the edge of the sofa much more than my original viewing. In fact this time I was scared throughout the whole movie and couldn't go to sleep afterwards because I was so creeped out. Strange. So glad I had my dogs though with me lol. I guess it will go on my buy list after all. The same thing happened with Inglorious Bastards. I liked it ok the first time but fell in love with it the second time. It's been a kooky week for me I guess in terms of film viewing. ETA- The two leads, Katie and Micah, were fantastic. I can't believe they are newcomers. They were better actors than a lot of their famous peers. Big futures ahead for them I think. They really pulled it off and the film would not have worked if they didn't have such strong and believable performances. And anyone who thinks Katie is fat needs to put down the meth pipe and stop twitching. She can't weigh more than 120-130 lbs and if that is fat we are all doomed. And I agree, her boobs are amazing. I am so jealous!

Totally agree about the boobs. Damn. I rented this the other night for the first time and I wasn't that freaked out while watching it, but man does it stay with you. By the time I was going to bed I could't get that freaking demon out of my head and spent most of the night listening for noises. Was the acting soft improv?

I gave it a second watch, this time in a dark, quiet house, in our dark, quiet neighborhood and it still didn't scare me.
Mr Lax, on the other hand, is having nightmares about me standing over him while he sleeps.

I wondered that too, another thing I was somewhat annoyed with was who sleeps with their door open like that? Close that friggin door!! *raises hand meekly* We do. Anyway, the husband and I saw this last night. I was spoiled, he was not. The reactions he gave were hilarious. His "holy shit!" at the end was classic. That and discussing the movie in bed -- I somehow suspect he was talking himself down. He said that the first time I stood over him for hours, it would be game over: demonologist and priest, stat. I was a bit disappointed. I really found Micah annoying (as did the husband) and couldn't believe she'd put up with him and his macho act for three years. There were some creepy parts, yeah, but no lasting impact. I just wanted them to go outside. Open the blinds to let the sunlight in. Turn on the damn lights at night. I slept soundly, even with the door open.

I finally watched this and was completely underwhelmed. I knew a bit about the plot (although not the ending), but I didn't find it scary at all (and I'm a big baby). Again, maybe it was the hype, but I found it annoying, slightly boring and then just silly toward the end. I found "The Strangers" so much scarier and creepier. I was surprised, I thought I'd really dig it.

Yeah, we watched it last night too, late, alone, with all the lights off, and we fell asleep at one point, and actually laughed at the ending. There were parts I can see being creepier while in a dark theatre (sensory deprivation, no pausing it for a beer, no talking out loud) but....as someone else here said, "Stupefyingly boring."

So, I'm really late to the party and finally got around to seeing this.
While I appreciate that it went for psychological terror rather than gore, I ended up having the same problem as I do with every horror movie - I can't get over how dumb the people are.
Guys, seriously - turn on the lights. Don't go stumbling around in the dark looking for the terrifying entity in your home. Also? Sleep in shifts. It might help. Finally, when the demon specialist recommended to you is out of town, get on the damn internet and find another demon specialist. Or if you are too lazy to Google, just turn your amazing videos over to someone in the media and you'll have demon specialists beating down your door.
I mean, if that were happening to me, there would be no "Oh, let's buy a book on demons and a ouija board and fix this ourselves." Fuck no. I'd be calling up every expert or "expert" I could think of. I'd be calling the damn Ghost Hunters and telling them "Have I got an episode for you, and dammit, you better help me or find someone who can in return." I'm not religious, but I'd have that place crawling with priests. Hell, I'd check myself into a mental ward - even if the thing could follow me, at least I'd be surrounded by people who could help protect me or protect others from me. I'd be trying anything and everything.
So, long story short, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I weren't too busy thinking of all the things they should have been doing but weren't.
