I don't think she needs to make a "smart move" because she's been so so quiet and out of the public eye. What would she have to gain by winning the PR war of the tumbling house? Would she care? Except to protect some integrity as you see the story build and build like a bad telephone game. I wouldn't want people to accuse me of being a greedy, gold-digging, house destroying bitch either. But it's not like she's got a talk show or any other project coming out that she needs people to like her for. I'll think it over if she becomes a real housewife or something. But for now... I can't think of the last time we even saw a picture of her or the kids.

The pap pictures aren't posted here. Go to a place like the JJB. The last ones I found, posted on that particular website from doing a search, was in November.

Okay, if Elin isn't a gold digger, dumb, and bulldozing home destroyer, etc. : _}
Why did she plunk down 12 million on a house without forking over the dough for an inspector to inspect the home?
An inspector would have went over that home with a fine tooth comb.
Personally, I think she didn't like the press she was getting. Don't think, because she is quiet she isn't like thinking about her image.

Don't think, because she is quiet she isn't like thinking about her image. I would imagine that she bought the property for the land, and knew all along the condition of the house and planned from the get-go that the house would be torn down. When I lived in LA, it was not uncommon for people in Santa Monica/Brentwood/Pacific Palisades to buy properties that most of us would consider perfectly decent houses and tear them down and start again. It was acknowledged as a sensible investment in the property. I just don't see that releasing a statement about the condition of the house and the donation to HfH as manipulative. She seems to make every effort to live her life as privately as possible, but she clearly sparks public interest. If she had released the statement about the HfH donation as soon as it was made, then an argument could be made that she was looking for attention. However, she released this after the sh*t hit the fan and I think very few of us wouldn't feel like we would want to defend ourselves against some very ridiculous gossip.

Not necessarily, cruising. Inspectors miss stuff all the time. When we were flipping houses in LA, we sometimes had to have three and four inspections in order to get them to acknowledge a problem or sign off on something. And the techniques can be incredibly shoddy, like the "inspection" of a roof of a two story house just involved taking a picture of it from the street... which obviously didn't disclose the damaged flashing that caused a huge collapse a few months later during a severe rainstorm. They also don't always check for specialized things like mold, lead paint, problems with outlying structures, tree roots in driveways and sidewalks that affect the plumbing.... And unless you've had a specific problem or are very familiar with the construction process, the average homeowner wouldn't know to ask about or look for these issues.
I don't fault Elin at all for "not liking the press she was getting"... especially if it was that negative and almost total bullshit/inaccurate.

If she had not released the truth about the house and HfH, people would have gone on and on about how she is a selfish, wasteful gold digger, etc. And, it really does seem to be the truth as she gave HfH 4 weeks to go through the house, so it isn't as if she got bad press and suddenly called HfH to arrange a hasty donation.
What is wrong with Elin getting the truth out there when the gossip was so wrong? The way that rumours work on the internet, where gossip soldifies into fact with no evidence, I sure as shit would get the truth out there because I would not want to deal with this bullshit story for the rest of my life when the truth is the opposite of the rumour.

I would bet she knew the exact condition of the house and bought it for the land and the views in order to build what she wants. The old place didn't exactly look like her style anyway. She can afford to do whatever she wants in that arena, and that's what I would have done. (Agreeing with what Karrit posted.)

This honestly seems like the biggest "Who the hell cares?" scandal in the world. Tearing down a house she owns, on her own property, isn't hurting anybody.
