Thanks for the reviews. I'm going to see a matinee with a friend on New Year's day (presuming our hangovers have been nursed by then).

Just got back from Sherlock Holmes, I enjoyed it immensely. The banter between Law and Downey was definitely the best part -- I would have loved more of that. And I gotta say I loved the score/music, I might go buy the soundtrack/score tomorrow. And while I don't think she was miscast or anything, Rachel McAdams was not her normal luminous self in the film; but her outfit at the end of the movie was amazing, I want it, especially the boots.

There were a ton of pap photos for months of Downey, Law, and McAdams filming while in London. My guess is after they filmed outdoor shots CGI was added which is actually fairly common. Some just do it better than others.
Full-on makeup was associated with actresses back then as well which in the books Adler was though I don't believe this was brought up in the movie. Still, Adler was not presented as a proper Victorian lady. She clearly has a brain which she uses which would have been frowned upon back then too. She's also a free spirit (didn't the movie hint she was divorced?). I don't think Adler would have been really that concerned with what a proper woman should look like when she was already not acting like one.

Saw it yesterday, agree with most points here. Mediocre action movie, but boy are Downey and Jude Law great together! I have never liked Jude Law as an actor, and vastly prefer him as a sidekick over a leading man. Rachel McAdams was miscast, boy there was one line she said towards the end on that bridge and everyone cracked up, it was so wooden. And after seeing Avatar, that CGI was ridiculously awful.
RJD is still smoking hot. Oh, and I really am still not sure what the plot was.

Saw it yesterday. Wasn't a great movie. Then again, can't say I actually wanted it to end. The chemistry between Jude Law and RDJ was the best since Redford/Newman. Very, very enjoyable.
And CGI or not...I thought the sets were total visual eye candy. Loved them.
This really cements for me the fact that I will pretty much watch RDJ now in anything. Age has been very, very good for his charisma factor.

I pretty much agree with what's been said here, I thought it was generally a fun movie and Downey and Law were great together. I'm really disappointed with Rachel McAdams. She just didn't seem mature enough in this, she looked far too young for the role. The Jude Law/Sean Penn comparison is very apt. I'm fully aware of what a skeezy slimeball Law is and yet I loved him in this. And my crush on Robert Downey Jr. is official. So hot.

I saw it yesturday. It was a tad confusing and the plot a bit messy. They set up something really cool about how SH fights, but didn't use it after that.
I loved RDJ in the role and he and Jude worked really well together.
Hate to say it, but Rachael was completely replaceable in this flick.

Just came back from it. I too was completely sold on RDJ and Jude Law and their chemistry, and wanted to see more of Mary. Rachel McAdams left me completely bored, and the movie needed either more editing or less. Can't tell which. But it was a fun popcorn movie.

Well, I just got in the door from seeing the movie and Robert and Jude are the couple of the year, and I wasn't bored at all, it flowed along well.

definitely mediocre. I did not care for all of the action and CGI. Maybe they could have put a lot of that $$ into having a decent story put together before the movie started filming. I have read all of the Sherlock Holmes short stories and don't ever remember him being a super hero fighting this much. Poor Rachel McAdams was given nothing to do except fawn over RDJ and clumsily advance the plot when necessary. Speaking of plot. There was one? And could they have begged for a sequel any more than they did? If they had spent more effort not trying to involve "you know who" for a sequel then they could have had a proper ending. RDJ already has a super hero franchise, no need to start another so soon. I say matinee at best and probably better at second run theater. PS - that last scene on the bridge had so much CGI I thought Rachel McAdams was in a video game!
