To be fair, as a fan of the books you often have no idea what Holmes is thinking until near the end so that was reasonable.
Loved RDJ and Jude Law, they should do all their movies together from now on. Or just hang out and tape their conversations then post them on YouTube. I'd watch. Although I have to ask: did they bulk Jude Law up for this movie under his coat or something? he looked so... masculine. It was confusing. .
Rachael McAdams was really the weak link. A lot of actresses have done that kind of part much better in the past, I spent the whole time thinking what a kick ass time Keira Knightley would have had playing that part.

She's about ten years too young and I can't imagine her playing an American convincingly.

I saw this with friends and really enjoyed it. I actually thought the whole ensemble was fun and worked well together. I'm not sure the film needed McAdams per se, but she didn't feel wedged in, the way female characters often are ("Women won't see this unless there's a woman in it!"--TPTB). It felt a bit long, and I think I dozed a bit, but that was due to weeklong insomnia and not the movie. I'd see it again, either on DVD or a matinee.

Looks like there will be a sequel!Well, First Showing my guess the reason why the original writers aren't being brought back is because people want some semblance of a plot. Hiring new writers is an excellent idea! Downey and Law were awesome so I'm looking forward to them teaming up again! Now, may I suggest Irene is recast with another actress if the character is brought back?

Now, may I suggest Irene is recast with another actress if the character is brought back? I agree. We need an actress who's at least thirty but under forty, American (or able to play one well) and able to play intelligent, formidable but vunerable. Not too modern looking either. Maybe Kate Winslet? She's played Americans and she certainly has the talent.

She is and I've found some people online who think that she is too young to play Adler. I'm not sure I'd agree but I certainly wouldn't want someone much younger. I don't think McAdams was awful mind you, but I wouldn't be dissapointed if a stronger and/or more suitable actress was found.

On the plus side, my favourable reactions are summed up as "Hi, Hans Matheson - ding dong!" and "Hi, RDJ! Aren't you sexy?".
On the minus, I caught Jude Law striking a pose for the camera a few times, and additionally the bromo-erotic hi-jinx were directed with a leaden and witless hand by Guy Ritchie. He has two proficient actors with pleasing chemistry, so endless 5-second reaction shots after each phallic image and reminder of their impending separation needlessly slowed down the pace.
Also - too many action scenes.

Hans Matheson is gorgeous and from what I could tell the film wasn't that clear what happened to him at the end. Perhaps he will be in the sequel. I thought that Jude and Robert had great chemistry, I saw it again today with a different group of friends and everyone really enjoyed it.

Saw this last night. At first, I was a little annoyed with Holmes breaking down how the fight was going to go, but then I realized he was a genius & this was his way of weighing his options, so to speak.
The comraderie between Holmes & Watson was believable. I never got a homoerotic vibe from it. Watson was Holmes' best friend. His only true friend, to be quite honest. Of course, he'd naturally be worried and jealous of someone new coming into their hemisphere. I thought Mary held her own really well against Holmes.
RDJ was excellent as usual. Jude redeemed himself as an actor. Still a schmuck in RL, but he was sexy, confident mofo in this one.
Unpopular opinion, but I thought Rachael McAdams did fine. She was the third wheel in a male buddy flick. Not much room for her to do much else.
The plot was for shit, but more please!
