I saw this last week and have this one point to make. I thought the movie was OK but are they expecting us to really remember the last movie? I cannot even remember how Sherlock holmes 1 ended. It all seems to run together to me. Because of this i don't remember much about Watson's wife or any characters referenced from before. (It could be sometimers creeping in)And i mentioned this on another thread but for whatever reason this movie's period piece sets scream "fake" to me. Except for maybe the gentlemen's club.

I saw it this afternoon and really liked it; I really have a soft spot for scenes in which all hell breaks loose in a white tie setting, or on a train, or in an opera house that as always an opera production that is kind of related to the plot of the movie. I guess that means "Tosca" would have been a good fit for "The Reichbach Fall"?
I saw the first one recently and I didn't feel that one really needed to know all of the details to enjoy "Game of Shadows", Moriarty is lurking around in that one, but he isn't the total big bad in it.
Also liked the detail of Watson and Moran facing off with each other in this one, and Mary and Sim were awesome.

The one big problem I had with it was Colonel. Moran was completely miscast - in the stories Moran is white moustached, upper class and in his early 50's.
Paul Anderson gave a good performance but he was too young, too scrawny and too working class for the part.

Coincidentally, I saw "Game of Shadows" right before the stellar series 2 finale of "Sherlock" and found the movie could've used more fight scenes and explosions.

How can you get more explodey than running for dear life through a forest getting woodchipped by heavy bombardment?

Sarcasm! (While it was an entertaining but forgettable couple of hours, it bore as much resemblance to the spirit of ACD as me watching a pirated copy on my PS3 does to reading the books).

That was my reaction to the latest cinematic incarnation of Sherlock Holmes as Action Hero. I enjoyed the heck out of both movies while at the same time thinking they shouldn't have done that to the icon that ACD created.
Offhand, I can't think of a good movie Sherlock (or Watson). Jeremy Brett's small-screen series is my favorite, so far.

Get thee to iTunes, Duke, and download the first series of BBC's "Sherlock". The second series just ended and, I'm guessing, will be on ITunes after it airs on BBCA in May (I think).

This was definitely better than the first, IMO. Agree with critics @ women's roles in both movies.

Just finished this with Mr and TeenCatHead. Mr fell asleep and Teen started reading on her nook. I ended up just fast-forwarding.
None of us were invested in the plot (what little there was of one) nor the characters. Noomi Repace had so little to do, poor woman. What a waste of time.
