Saw this last night. The plot had holes that I could have driven a carriage and four through.  Mark Strong made a decent villain, but I kept expecting him to say, "Muhahah!" He looked too Draculaish. Mary's makeup should have been a lot more discreet, and the bit in the hospital should not have shown us her cleavage. Ladies wore high necks in the daytime. Irene needed to scrape off about half the warpaint. Scarlet lady, yes, but a scarlet lady who could pass. |

Basically, it's a big dumb action movie Steampunk style. I did love the clothes.
Jude Law was good. RDJ didn't feel cerebral enough for Holmes, IMO.

I thought the costumes were wonderful as well especially the police. Those capes are quite dashing.

Basically, it's a big dumb action movie Steampunk style. And that is exactly why I loved it! I didn't really have huge problems with the plot - most of the holes were refrigerator questions, as in, it wasn't till I was getting a snack out of the fridge that night that I thought, "Didn't whatever blah blah...?" I thought all the actors were great, including McAdams whom I'm usually indifferent towards. But oh, the production design! It was just all so beautiful, and lovingly shot, and Richie's frenetic style meshed with the Steampunk so well (and I was mighty skeptical going in) that it all just worked. |

I thought Andy Garcia had plastic surgery to make himself look younger, but had run out of money when he got to his teeth.

He does look kind of like Andy Garcia, but he's much taller than him so I knew it wasn't. Andy Garcia is on the small side. Not Tom Cruise short, but on the short side of average.
