Man, that was awesome! I never would have guessed after the pilot that this show would turn into such an entertaining show! I'm really looking forward to S2!
Ok, how many think Lucretia is alive? Yeah, I know she was stabbed in the stomach and should be dead but I don't think her twitching at the end is a coincidence. Crixus should be dead after his wounds so I don't see why Lucretia can't survive either. Batty is definitely dead though. I wonder if John Hannah only wanted to do just one season since historically Batiatus survived the revolt.
Ice must run in Illithyia's veins because that COLD! I know TWOP think she's just crazy but I think she's cold and calculating. She had an opportunity to rid of herself of her blackmailers and she took it. Everyone else is simply collateral damage as far as she's concerned.
Now Varro's wife? Is nuts. I must admit I kinda felt sorry for dear old Numerius. Yeah, he was pretty cold about Varro's death (dude just because you don't view slaves as human doesn't mean the slaves share that view!) but in many ways he was still a dumb kid.
So, Doctore's real name is Oenomaus who was an important leader in the rebellion! So, now we have our leaders together and I can't wait to see the havoc they reek!
Next season should be really interesting since I imagine the setting will shift to Rome. Bring on all the important nobles shaking in their boots! More Glaber please! And bring in Pompey! Hmmm, I wonder, since this show is created/produced by Xena's people, if Karl Urban can be called in to play Julius Caesar in an episode or two?

omg I'll die if Karl Urban shows up. My lust for him knows no bounds!
I think Lucretia is alive. And pissed. Sad that Batty is gone but it had to be. There was no other resolution. I'm surprised Varro's wife made it. She seemed like a throwaway character to me. Love that Ashur survived and how he hid seemed perfectly fitting to his character. He makes this show interesting for me. Now, Doctore/Oenomaus? He is sex on a stick, imo. So very glad I'll have his sexeh to look at during Season 2.
Regarding Season 2: when will they start filming that? Are they really doing a prequel?

Same here! So, show producers make this happen! Throw in some interaction with Lucretia for good measure! Yeah, I know Xena was supposed to be all about Xena and Gabrielle's true, though only hinted at for the sake of sponsors, love but man Lucy Lawless and Karl Urban did have hot chemistry (same with Lucy and Kevin Smith, may he rest in peace)!
It sounds like they were already filming S2 when production had to be shut down due to Andy's cancer diagnosis. It seems the reasons Starz has decided to do a miniseries prequel is so the cast and crew have something to do while Andy recovers and to make sure the audience doesn't forget about Spartacus.

OMG Batiatus!! I was struck with fan-wankishness after his death and declared Never. Watching. Again! Until I remembered that Ilythia is still snaking around, and Lucretia is by no means dead. Not to mention Spartacus, Crixus and Doctore! Batiatus was Awesome Incarnate, but all the other characters in the show are fantastic too.
So glad that Aurelia killed the kid. Take that, you little shit!

I had high expectations, but the finale easily topped them. Such an entertaining, shocking hour! Since Hannah is an established actor, I'd been wondering from the start if he signed on to have fun for a season and knew that he wouldn't need to commit to years of TV. Batiatus became a great villain over the second half of the season, and his death was very satisfying. If this was Lucretia's end, it was a good one. I can't complain even though I love the character and hoped she'd escape. But... she was twiching. An extra bit of tragedy to keep her aware of what's happening to her and Batiatus, or a way for the show to bring her back if they feel like it? A Lucretia/Ilithyia reunion would be awesome. I can envision a Season 2 flashback to Ashur and Medicus finding an unconscious Lucretia among the corpses. Cold. Cold but awesome. She's another character who's become so much more interesting than I thought she would be. I'm surprised Varro's wife made it. She seemed like a throwaway character to me. Her becoming a slave really paid off in the scene where she killed the loathsome kid who was Too Stupid To Live. Slaves rebel, he's looking at the corpses, and he just chats about how that one gladiator was worthless! Aurelia looked seriously disturbed during and after the killing. I can see her not coming back next season. As happy an ending as is possible would be a brief mention of how Varro's wife left the rest of the slaves and escaped with their child to relatives somewhere far away. Even though the show killed off many characters, S2 should be awesome with Spartacus, Crixus, Oenomaus, Ilithyia and Glaber. And hopefully they have as much luck casting Crassus as they've had with their choices so far.

Katrina Law, aka Mira, posted on her blog a thank you to fans and recappers, like AfterElton, for their support. The post also includes a ton of behind the scenes photos. Looks like the cast and crew have a great time filming! Also, Andy Whitfield is very pretty when he smiles!

Hey good news from Comic-Con! Andy Whitfield is now cancer free and is in training for S2! Glad to hear he's in remission and feeling better! He looks great in the video interview! He's a bit thinner but I suppose that's to be expected. The link also includes details of the prequel and prequel teaser trailer. ETA: I want the Spartacuss ap! It takes modern day profanity and turns it into Spartacus profanity!

Spartacus & Varro[/color] together again! Andy looks good, healthy, and happy. Gonna miss Varro next season.
