She's hanging tough and not backing down. I'm sure Dr. Luke assumed this case would be quickly settled out of court and that would be the end of it. If Kesha wins the next battle and is allowed to release music again AND if that music sells, she will have nothing to lose. If nothing else, I hope Dr. Luke loses enough sleep over this so that he conducts himself more professionally with female talent going forward.

I didn't realize until I read the article how long it's been since she's put any music out. That's due to her contract. I guess Dr. Luke figured he owned Kesha literally as well as figuratively.

She lost her battle to be freed of her contract: LINKHuh? Who the hell is in line to buy SIX more Kesha albums?! I guess they couldn't just let her go because that could possibly be considered an admission of Dr. Luke's guilt. This is so sad. She is literally owned by a corporation. Even if she's not trapped in a studio with Dr. Luke, she'll likely be in the studio with people who are sympathetic to him and resentful towards her. And on top of that, when the meager profits are all done being divvied up she'll make little to no money out of it. The lesson for singers and musicians (in case they didn't know already) is that if you fuck with us we will take your livelihood and dignity and shit all over it and make you roll around in it.

Maybe she can win on appeal?
I saw a "Free Ke$ha" twitter earlier and didn't know what it referred to. I guessed she was in jail. This is much worse.

Yeah. This is the ruling that my friends in law were expecting. It's in line with prior rulings. So that just goes to show you how much the law supports the money of a corporation over the mental and physical safety of an contracted employee.
So her career is pretty much facing a wall. Even if she doese create music, will the jerks at Sony be willing to promote it and push it like her other works? Meanwhile, Dr Luke has all kinds of projects in the works, and will likely continue to barf out hits like "I Kissed a Girl" and "My First Kiss."

That is really disturbing. I don't really get how that can NOT be considered a hostile work environment for her.
Can she simply stop making music and not put out the future six albums if she didn't want to?

In the past, artists have put out awful albums to fulfill contracts (which can get you sued), you can file more lawsuits (which can destroy finances or keep you from working for years -- Prince, Jojo, George Michael are some examples off the top of my head), or, if you are a band, you can break up to get out of a contract (which is why we're not getting any Outkast albums anytime soon). And yeah, you can also walk. It seems like every major act gets sued or shut down by their label at some point. The system is a mess.

JoJo put out mixtapes while she lingered in limbo with her label Blackground. (She also released her own spin on Drake's song "Marvin's Room".) It'd be cool for Kesha to do that if she can.
Part of the argument made by JoJo's legal team was because she had originally entered into this (bad) contract as a minor, seven years was long enough of a term and she should no longer be bound by that contract as an adult. How old was Kesha when she signed?

She was 18 when she signed to Dr. Luke's label, which is owned by Sony. (According to wiki.)
I love hearing about artist work arounds, hah. Way to play, JoJo.

I feel awful for Ke$ha. Shame on Sony.
