I read a tidbit about this idiot in Rolling Stone while I was at the dentist's office. An excerpt:

Ke$ha inherited her wild vibe and artistic spirit from her mom, Pebe, a single parent who isn't sure who Kesha's dad is. She supported her daughter on welfare checks and food stamps.... "She's the original badass," says Ke$ha of her mom. "We're like best friends. I'll call her up and say, 'Oh, my God, I gave this guy a blow job last night,' and she'll say, 'Kesha, you slut!'"

*sigh* This Kesha is just another in a long line of trashy dumbass party girls whose only "talents" are screwing, drinking, and puking.

Someone tried to call me out recently for liking Gaga and trashing this Ke$ha. There's a key difference to me. Gaga actually puts a lot of creative effort into her music, puts on a helluva show, seems to possess a bit of wit, and, well, generally has active brain cells in her head!!

Ke$ha? gets trashed and "raps" or "sings" about it. About half of the teens I know could do that. They just don't have record contracts.

Original badass? There's a "Kesha's mom" on every episode of Maury. Not knowing who your baby's daddy is isn't original and living on food stamps and welfare is certainly not badass. Ugh. That quote from her screams white trash with the weird and idiotic pride in being a loser.

Is she making up her background for marketing purposes? -- maybe to make it seem like she raised herself up from poverty, adversity, weird mothers who don't know who their babydaddys are?, etc.

I don't like her singing at all, but I was looking at her Wikipedia profile and it said she was academically minded and scored near perfect SAT scores. The profile also said she'd sneak into university classes while she was in high school because she enjoyed hearing about history.

I do find her music and way of singing incredibly annoying though.

I will say, if she's actually got a brain, then she's hiding it really, really well. She was on some entertainment show this evening when I was flipping through channels and she comes across as a total moron, about as intellectual as Lindsay, Paris, Britney, etc.

If she's *pretending* to be a dumb, white trash slut to try to sell more records, well, that's just depressing. Here I was hoping that the Stupid Girls crew might be on the way out, then another one comes along. Like, it's soooo totally cool to live a life of complete hedonism and have, like, no goals or valuable contributions to society whatsoever. Totally badass!

I agree with the person upthread who commented on how horrid this generation of vapid, generally amoral girls has been for society in general.

Not every mother who relies on assistance from the state to support her children is a loser who just can't be bothered to get a job. Without knowing exactly what the situation was, it's unfair to just tar her with that brush.

You're right about not knowing the situation, but that's not where the criticism lies. It's the pride Kesha had in her mother living on welfare and implying she took advantage of the system that's a problem. Plenty of mothers genuinely need assistance, but if they are good mothers they do their best to make sure their kids know it's not "badass" and cool to have live that way. It's that mentality that keeps poor people down from generation to generation. This is all assuming anything that comes out of Kesha's mouth is true anyway. For all we know she's still attempting to be ironic.
