I was there last night. I was bummed that she basically just did a 10-minute version of her current tour/album. She was given the Video Vanguard Award for lifetime achievement, right? Where was the medley of previous hits? I mean, last year, Justin Timberlake reunited with *NSYNC for Pete's sake. She didn't have to do a Destiny's Child reunion, she has enough hits on her own. Also there was no intro of her or any kind of VoiceOver to talk about her career and why she was given that. It was basically a short concert. It was also so dark. Couldn't see her half the time. Apparently I am in the minority but I was so not enthralled by it.
I will say, though, Blue Ivy is adorable.

Beyonce did a medley of her past hits at the Superbowl. At least three of the songs performed there would have been done instead, and with people saying she always does the same thing, I don't blame her for doing something completely different.
Kelly is very pregnant. No way she would get up on stage and perform. And if Beyonce had done the DC songs without her? I can't imagine the shitstorm that would have produced. Beyonce's been doing a DC medley in concert for years (she finally stopped with Mrs. Carter). It's not like Justin Timberlake, who has paid dust to his NSync music sing he went solo.
I'm very happy I got Jealous live.

I loved every moment not just for the performance but the uproar she causes every single time. Yes, the audience/media reaction is always kinda cray. And admittedly, I haven't listened to Beyonce in months but I definitely relived the excitement of that first day of the surprise record drop. eta: she's doing an HBO special of her tour on 9/20, which may have also pushed her not to do a medley last night. I liked the energy of all the switchups...Knowing Beyonce, I'm just surprised she didn't fit in costume changes too. I think she did everything but Superpower, right?

Superpower was right after Blow. It was just the music though.

I agree that the internet reaction after Beyonce does so much as sneeze is always ridiculous, but on the other hand even if you didn't like her performance I'm not sure you can deny that she was working harder than anyone else in the room. I don't think I actually like Beyonce very much, but I admire her a lot, not least because she never, ever half-asses it. I'm glad she kept the TED talk in the performance, too.
Also I googled 'Beyonce private' because I feel like every time we see Blue Ivy the same "she can't ever call herself private again" comes up, but I couldn't find any quotes. Wondering if anyone has any links?

I thought it was pretty obvious why she was crying onstage. Yeah she had already seen Blue but I imagine seeing your toddler clapping and telling you "go Mommy!" while you receive an award is pretty emotional. I broke down when my son gave me roses the day I got my master's degree even though we rode to the ceremony together. I mean there's cynicism and then there's just...bitterness.
Anyhoo, I can see how people might have been underwhelmed by the performance. I loved it because I loved almost the entire album but I think most people are used to her upbeat radio hits. This was more subdued.
Call me crazy but I do see a difference in the way the Carters interact post-elevator. But marriage is hard. There are ups and downs. I have no doubt that there are or were issues but they seem to be committed so...time will tell. I hope they make it. They have a beautiful family. Blue is adorable.

BET should be shame of themselves. Blue Ivy is a child. A child!
I guess no one on that show understood the hypocrisy of a black music show on a black network dissing a child with a natural hairstyle. SMDH

What in the living fuck is people's problem with a child's natural black hair?! My niece has her hair natural too and I dare someone to make a comment about it.

It's not right to go on TV and make fun of any child's hair. It's worse when it's a black child because most people know (and I'd think BET would know) that black people, especially girls are often teased and criticized for their hair. I'm just glad that Bey and Jay haven't put a relaxer in that child's hair. As for braiding, maybe she's too young to wear braids, or maybe braids make her cry. Part of me wonders though, if it was a child, other than Beyonce's would people go coocoo bananas over it? Also, I've read some pretty racist stuff said about Karruche Tran, which isn't cool, calling her "karate" and "rice cakes." I mean, if you don't want people saying racist stuff about your race, don't say it about another race.
