Billboard's charts have never made sense - the way they parse out categories. If something's popular, it should be popular across everything, right? Anyway, good for her. F*** the haters. They will not give her any awards at the CMAs though - so don't even think about it Kanye. Though that would be fun for a news cycle. This coming music awards season will be super interesting. I can't see the country music establishment giving Bey any awards for her two songs or the album, but then again, I was also convinced that country radio would be dead set against playing her, and yet here we are. So, yeah stranger things have happened. What would be really interesting is if the always elusive Album of the Year Grammy that Beyonce fans keep clamoring for finally materialized the year that Bey makes a country album (which BTW, will most likely be competing in that category with the upcoming "The Tortured Poets Department" from formerly country Taylor Swift. The discs are being released in March 29 and April 11, respectively). Could you imagine if somebody in 2008 had told you that Taylor Swift would someday be the hottest female artist in pop music and that this would happen the same year that Beyonce would have two top ten singles on the country charts, including the # 1 song??

I just went back and watched Beyoncé’s performance of Daddy Lessons with The Chicks on the CMAs. That was such a scorching performance. Still good! I loved that she had The Chicks perform with her, which felt like a middle finger to the country establishment considering the way they had been exiled. So even if she does not win any big country awards, which she should, she’ll succeed in making their discrimination crystal clear.
On a related note, back in the day Bo Duke was my favorite Duke boy so it saddens me to learn that he’s airing his white hood. He rose to fame driving a car with the confederate flag painted on the roof but somehow I was still surprised.

It just blows me away that anyone is criticizing Beyoncé doing country music, as the poster upthread said, she’s from TEXAS. In my opinion, she’s more authentic than Keith Urban.
And on top of that, she’s Beyoncé. When you are an artist of that caliber, you are beyond genres. It’s like Dolly Parton releasing a rock album.

I used to watch the Dukes of Hazzard as a child and preferred Luke Duke, and also watched The Hardy Boys, and preferred Parker Stevenson over Shaun Cassidy (I like to go against the grain). Anyhow, in my mind, the actor who portrayed Luke Duke is a decent human being, unlike his tv brother, and couldn’t care less about the race of a woman singing catchy country songs.

Bey very obviously works her bum off. She clearly creates music that people enjoy and she has a great deal of tenure in an industry where very few people have staying power. I applaud her doing whatever she wants. Maybe this is just my perception, and I will stand corrected if I am in error, but it SEEMS to me that there are certain genres of music that appear to be associated with an entire lifestyle. The music tastes become affixed to clothing style, language, and other things. This can be so much the case that people will use the style of music as an identifier. I've heard people say, "I'm country." I have also heard people say,"I'm hip hop." These people tend to be very...possessive of "THEIR genre." These people tend to either be quite young or very myopic. Obviously this is not true of all such people. I do wish people could just be allowed to be creative in whatever style they like.

Was John Schneider an actor first, before attempting a singing career? If so, I’m sure he wouldn’t have appreciated anyone telling him to stay in his lane.

I'm pretty sure. I was also a big fan of his when "Dukes of Hazzard" was in its prime. I was single-digits though so what did I know? I just liked hunky blond men at the time (see also Jon-Erik Hexum, RIP). Anyway, yeah it's sad how we grow up and learn our idols are real, icky people.
Beyonce's already cemented her place in pop culture history. John Schneider will forever be Bo Duke. But nobody will remember John Schneider, the country singer/right-wing troll.

TIL that John Schneider had a country music career, and I was actually listening to country during the time he was active. So, yeah, I think he needs to take a few seats here.
