A Quiet Place, Part Two. Really enjoyed it, maybe more than the first. It's a tight 1:37, so it gets right into the action and pretty much doesn't stop. That is my kind of movie.

We watched Profile last night through Amazon's simultaneous theater/streaming system. Didn't feel the need to see this one in the actual theater since the whole movie takes place on a computer screen.
It was really good, both of the leads really sold their roles. It ended a bit abruptly, just at the point where I was starting to think "why do I like this guy/why am I kinda rooting for these two as a couple?"
It definitely hit its mark with me though, considering that I spent the first few minutes of the movie scoffing at the Facebook chat between the journalist and the ISIS recruiter, saying "who the hell actually responds to the weirdos who try to chat with you on FB??"
Not that I'm not aware that plenty of people, particularly lonely, vulnerable people, do this every day, but I'm a suspicious soul and assume the worst intentions from everyone, so I'd never even look at a message from a stranger.
But the lead guy was so engaging and it made so much sense by the end. The kittens, the stories about his family, the videos of soccer games and other perfectly normal activities, plus his intense way of professing love (and frankly, his good looks), it all comes together and you can actually see the appeal of something that sounds so unbelievable when viewed from the outside.
Now I want to read the book this was based on.

In The Heights. I knew nothing of this musical--and I'm not a huge musical lover--but I really, really enjoyed this. It's just so much fun. And apparently I was sleeping on Anthony Ramos, because I just thought he was OK in Hamilton, but he is fantastic in this.

I’m also not a huge musical person but this felt different. The whole experience made me happy and emotional; I haven’t been inside a movie theater for far too long and I’m so glad I chose to see it in the theater and not at home. The cast was fantastic although I have a hard time with Jimmy Smits now after having seen him somewhat recently in Dexter.

First time to the movies since Covid and it was so good to be back. 2.0 and I saw Cruella today and it was an absolute treat. We even bought snacks because we were so happy to have the movie experience again.

I just couldn't focus enough to follow along, though I liked the music. Anthony Ramos was great, I hadn't liked him in the few things I saw him in before Hamilton but thought he was really good in his smaller roles in Hamilton and great in this. We also returned to the movie theater this weekend to see A Quiet Place II. It was good, not great. The action was good, but the ending was quite abrupt and the massive holes in the plots have to be ignored in order to enjoy it. I usually don't like Cillian Murphy, but he was great in this. Also, he needs to keep that facial hair forever, it's such a good look for him and balances out those eyes that can otherwise be a bit overwhelming.

I've always just been "ok, there's Cillian Murphy," but man, he looked really good all scruffed up. If I recall correctly, the first one had that same type of abrupt ending, so I'm guessing that's it's signature, sort of.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard left me pretty disappointed. It was not really funny to me and the bantering started to get annoying. Salma Hayek seemed to spend the whole movie screaming and chewing scenery. It was so disappointing it made me question my like of the first one.

Cruella. Not really sure an origin story for her was necessary, but it was enjoyable. Loved the music and clothes (and Wink and Buddy!). Definitely a fun movie.

I've watched the first two parts of Fear Street, it's so good. I'm already sad I only have one more part to watch.
