I would love if she told them that’s it’s pronounced the same way as when you asked xx years ago.
I saw the Animated Shorts yesterday. All were good, but I like some of the Honorable Mentions better. And Academy Award Nominee Kobe Bryant, who’d have thought?

I'm hoping that Laurie Metcalf somehow manages to win, much like how Marcia Gay Harden won out of nowhere after Kate Hudson had won everything else and Alan Arkin won the year Eddie Murphy won everything else. It could happen!

Vulture interviews new Academy members on how they have and will vote, focusing especially on those who have joined in the last two years - a group that skews younger and more diverse. It's a pretty interesting article.

It's a pretty interesting article. I just read this, thanks to your link. I thought Gook was terrible, so I'm glad it wasn't even on the radar for awards season, lest it become THE movie that tells of the Korean-American immigrant family experience during the LA Riots. I really think Mudbound was amazing, and I'm very sad there weren't more accolades. ETA: I'm sure Vulture picked some choice quotes to fit their narrative, but I really do hope that Asian-American voters aren't just zeroing in Asian-American actors and stories. I'm sure Hong Chau had a great performance but who the hell even saw that movie? I still don't even know what it's about. I blame Matt Damon.

Place your bets. Place your bets.
My guesses:
Best Picture: "Get Out" (I'm going for the Zeitgeist here)
Best Actor: Gary Oldman "Darkest Hour"
Best Actress: Frances McDormand, "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"
Supporting Actor: Sam Rockwell "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"
Supporting Actress: Allison Janney "I, Tonya"
Director: Guillermo Del Toro "The Shape of Water"

I will definitely have to sit out this next award season. Folks over on Awardswatch are going nuts over Lady Gaga and now that the movie has premiered to positive reviews in Venice, it's full on. And I know she will campaign the hell out of this; I mean she campaigned for over a year trying to win a Best Song Oscar so my guess is I will go gaga myself if I follow the season too closely this year ;-)

She is going to be absolutely insufferable during Oscar season, as will many of the people stumping for her. And on a really petty note, it’ll really piss me off if she wins a freaking Oscar playing a role that Judy Garland was denied one for.

She may try her best, but there is a enough disdain for her to prevent it. Folks on ONTD still hold the R.Kelly collab against her. On the heels on the TimesUp/MeToo movements, she'll have a tough hill to climb trying to explain that one. She has a ready made backlash for any praise she may get for the role.

This is going to be a long Oscar season... color me surprised that ASIB could turn out to be good.

It's going to be an endless, eye-rolling Gaga headache. On another note, the Academy's announcement of the creation of a "Popular Movie" awards makes me chuckle and think of a conversation that went on here. Someone in another thread expressed dismay that A Quiet Place was going to piggyback off of the critical success of Get Out and get the Oscar(s) that Get Out deserved. I thought - that's ridiculous, it will never happen. And then the Academy created a special category for the express purpose of making it happen.
