Congratulations Diablo Cody! Golden Globe Noms
ETA: ok don't really care for anything other right now because James MvAcoy got in!!!!
Not all of the nominees are in yet still, so I'll probably come back and edit more reactions in later once they're all out.
I can't believe they've went beyond their six nominee per category, which I thought was pushing it anyway, to seven nominees per category in some cases. I know they want to honor their chosen ones, but I think it seems ridiculous since I could see them adding more and more nominees in just to get one of their pets to the awards. Of course, even with there only being five nominees in the BSA category, Travolta still got in. I really hope that it doesn't mean he actually has a chance for an Oscar nomination now. I'm even fine with Julia Roberts getting in for CWW because at least right now I don't know of anyone doing her role before, and doing it better.
It looks like Atonement got a big boost today, so I expect Keira Knightley will probably get the fifth spot now because it's more of what Oscar goes for then Amy Adams' movie, and it looks like Laura Linney won't be nominated this year since she hasn't been acknowledged by anyone yet but her co-star has. It's too bad because I thought she would be the favorite, and that it wouldn't go too another biopic performance. Nothing against biopics, but I'm getting tired of them dominating the acting awards for the last few years especially when Cate Blanchett could wind up winning BSA this year for another biopic. I can't believe I might actually start rooting for Keira Knightley to win over Cotillard since she'll be in the film in the actress category with the most nominations, and because unfortunately Ellen Page probably won't have a chance because of her age and the fact that she's a newcomer, and they don't seem to award second Oscars to women Julie Christie's age.
Finally, besides Atonement, I think American Gangster was really helped today. I don't know if it will be enough since the buzz on the movie has faded a lot, but it probably will be because of the cast and crew. I think it's still possible that Ruby Dee could pull a surprise Oscar nomination because it looks like the Supporting Actress category is all over the place. Right now Ryan, Blanchett, Swinton, and possibly Ronan are in, but I'm iffy on Ronan because they could honor Redgrave for Atonement instead. Also besides Laura Linney, I think this really hurts Into the Wild and Emile Hirsch's chances. I thought he was a shoo-in if there was a spot for the newcomer in the actor category, but it's more likely to go to McAvoy, Affleck, or even Gosling. (Although I can't seem them nominating Gosling again so soon especially for Lars).
ETA:
I haven't heard anything yet other than it's okay, but it's not what the Oscar voters go for. (Of course that was coming from Tom O'Neil, so take it with a large grain of salt.) I really don't see it being much of an Oscar player though unless it turns out to be a really big hit, but I think the comedy spot, if there is one will be filled by Juno. Also, if Closer didn't get Julia Roberts a nomination, I don't think CWW will since she got better reviews for the former film. Some critics said that was the best performance of her career, so if that didn't get her attention after her win, I think it's going to take a lot for her to get back in again even in the supporting category.

OK what's the deal with CWW?
