{pedantic flag knowledge} In Regarding Henry, the opening shot is of attorney Henry (Harrison Ford) in a courtroom giving a closing argument. You can see that the state flag of New York is on the judge's right, and the American flag is on the judge's left. They aren't supposed to be that way; they should be switched The American flag is always on the judge's right. {/pedantic flag knowledge}

In The Aviator, when Hughes and the 15-year-old (Faith?) are out to dinner, she's eating a dessert... oh wait, not eating... but, yes, she's eating it... wait... no... make it stop!! Normally that kind of thing doesn't bother me until the second or third time I see a movie, but the first time? In the theater for 8 bucks? So distracting. Shame on you, Scorsese! {{tongue clucking ensues}}

The most glaring continuity error I know is from a French spy thriller Espion, lève-toi. There is a shot of a train station with a huge clock in the foreground on which you can clearly see that it is 10:00 a.m and then there is one of these subtitles which tells you that it is in fact 3:00 p.m. I mean this really does show you the director did not care. Mind you, the movie is full of continuity and factual errors, especially if you know Zürich, Switzerland. On the other hand it is quite funny to see a terrorist plot against the Swiss government.

Aahhhhhhhhhhhh - a continuity thread. Was wondering if I should start one. I watch movies a second and a third time specifically to catch screw-ups and regularly try to check the IMDB Goofs Browser (I'm also a past contributor).
If anybody's got any question about continuity problems - just run "Titanic" thru a couple of times. There's close to (if not actually) 200 booboos in that movie (not all continuity, but still).
I live for this stuff! Thanks Monster Zero.

A big one in Hannibal (the Silence of the Lambs sequel) In the big confrontation between Clarice and Hannibal, she handcuffs herself to him. He takes the meat cleaver and cuts off a hand...gasp...it's his not Clarice's. So at this point he is free of both the cuffs and his hand. Clarice is still wearing one of the cuffs. She follows him outside as the FBI and SWAT team descend, she puts her hands in the air... no cuffs. WTF??!

Forgive me for getting my details wrong (and correct me, please) since I only saw this movie once:
In Empire Records, one male character is dancing in the store, with his shirt alternating on and off.

It's not quite a continuity issue as one of geographic cluelessness. In The Deerhunter, the main characters are all from a generic small industrial town in rural Pennsylvania. However, when they all go hunting, the normally rounded and tree-covered Allegheny Mountains morph into huge stony crags that wouldn't be out of place in the Himalayan foothills! I can look out a window right now, and see that the filmmakers goofed big time.

At one of the movie mistake websites, the contributors have cited something like over 200 mistakes in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. One of the most glaring ones was when Frodo and Sam are about to leave on their quest. They're going through a field, and Sam stops and says, "If I take one more step, it'll be the furthest from home that I've ever been." Nice...and way in the background you can see a car driving away. Peter Jackson was actually a bit amused at how diligent the fans have been in finding mistakes in the trilogy.

In I Heart Huckabees (yes, I actually watched that movie all the way thru without sleeping, reading, picking my nose (I was tempted) or doing housework), Lily Tomlin (what happened to her face??? ) and Dustin Hoffman (he and Mark Wahlberg were the only good things in the movie) are going thru Jude Law's (a Brad mugging) garbage. Miss Tomlin has half her body in the trash can as her legs flap in the air and she is wearing light brown 2-inch heels. Later Miss Tomlin and Mr. Hoffman are squatting on the driveway inspecting the garbage that Miss Tomlin has unearthed from the garbage can and Miss Tomlin is wearing one-inch black heels. I guess that Miss Tomlin's (what happened to your face? you will never be able to play Ernestine again) feet hurt.

Please correct me if I'm missing something, but I'm Pirates of the Caribbean a bunch of times on cable, and after Capt. Jack gets away from the guards he slides down a rope using his shackles. Did the shackles magically separate and reconnect, allowing him to get them over the rope, or ?? Like I said maybe I'm not seeing something he does to pull this off since I never saw it in the theater, so let me know if I'm wrong--please!
