Note: I did say it was an EX-friend who believed it. (In another thread, I mentioned that he was my friend who I nicknamed The Charlie Brown-est. Yup, that guy).

Oh, I Netflixed it with wild abandon the minute I read this thread. I feel like we should have a board watch-along. What a perfect way to test the new board's realtime commenting! I've certainly got an oft-viewed AVI version of the movie, so sign me up!

Bah, I *own* that DVD. But then, we regularly watch the absolute dreck that are Asylum "mockbusters" on SciFi/SyFy (they did not dare to actually change their name over here, cause "syfy" in Polish is... not good LOL). And there is a lot merriment at the thvar home.
(Nowq, I am still not brave enough to watch A Serbian Film. Which is supposedly good, actually, but totally dreadful in other sense (anyone reading the Wikipedia synopsis does so at their own peril).

I think I read an Aaron Eckhart interview where he actually encountered a fan who had just bought (or was about to buy?) The Core on DVD, and Eckhart strongly tried to talk him out of it.

Weren't they the ones who made "Octoshark" which was basically Jaws' head on an Octopus's body, and it could go on land? I apologize, I had to go look it's "Sharktopus".

I can totally see Aaron Eckhart doing this: "Hey, man -- just ... don't, OK?"

(Insert entirely-predictable, "Aaron Eckhart can talk me into or out of ANYTHING" comment here.)

I also own Core, and have read the synopsis for a Serbian Film and I refuse to believe it's good. Whatever points it makes could be made in a million better, less completely repulsive ways.

I would like to point out that I was fortunate enough to go to an in-theaters screening of "MegaShark versus Giant Octopus" with the Asylum giving us all DVDs and Lorenzo Lamas signing them. But, more importantly, the guy there from the Asylum had a business card that listed his official title as "Corporate Tool," which I think is made of awesomeness.
My friend also asked Lorenzo how acting against imaginary MegaSharks compared to acting against giant dinos on SciFi's "Raptor Island." I should note that we were all being filmed for his reality show, but, alas, our screening never made it into any episodes.

I've often said that some interesting ideas are better left not explored beyond the idea stage and "Serbian Film" is one of those ideas. If you watch the movie after reading a one-sentence synopsis you'll probably think that the one-sentence synopsis was good enough. On the opposite side of that coin is "Martyrs", which I couldn't get through a second time but was glad I stuck with it through the first time. There is a resonant intellectual reward at the end, despite the brutality of the journey getting there.
