I watched it too, it was very cute. I do have to say that I hate that annoying sound effect that they have when his nose lights up. I cracked up when they got to the Island of Misfit toys and Rudolph is told he and his friends can't stay there. The lumberjack guy (?) says that even on the Island of Misfits Toys, Rudolph and friends are still misfits. And he said it in this total, you guys are losers voice. Kinda mean (but funny) for kids' story. Yukon Cornelius is a silver and gold prospector, and he was just making an observation -- even among misfits, they're misfits. I love this special so much even with its flaws (Santa and others being bigots so we can get the big moral of acceptance at the end, except Santa isn't really accepting of Rudolph until Rudolph proves useful). I could have written a thesis on this at one point. Other topics I've seen discussed: Why is the doll on the island? Is it becasue she had a psychological problem? Even if bumbles bounce, how come Rudolph and the others couldn't see that Yukon (and the bumble) survived? Just how deep was that crevasse? Overthinking things? Why I'd never do that

Polar Express is on right now, for the second time tonight. Family channel. We rented this on dvd last night and I barely made it through. The animation was CREEPY! and that 'know-it-all' kids' voice was so awful. I had high expectations because my kids and I love the book, but what a disappointment.

Mr. Dragonfly80 and I celebrated the holiday season with a showing of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation last night. It's my absolute favorite holiday movie. Cousin Eddie, exploding sewerage gas, hostage situations, ahh it makes Christmas in our own home seem somewhat less insane.
Last night my mother and I were also talking about how much we despise It's a Wonderful Life. It's depressing, dull, and drags on for what seems like five and a half hours. My husband has never seen it and refuses to sit through it. Sometimes I will give movies second chances, but I'd rather watch the Screech sex tape than give this steaming pile of dog poo another chance.

My love for Jimmy Stewart knows no bounds. I love It's a wonderful life. I guess i'm probably showing my age but there are a few TV Christmas specials that I love but I don't see on tv anymore. The little dummer boy. I bawl so much at the end when the lamb gets hit and the drummer boy takes it to the baby Jesus. I just bawl. My Kreuger's Christmas. Jimmy stewart again. I think this was a Mormon special. He was wonderful (heh) in it. JT. The story about a poor kid who finds a stray cat with one eye, and steals food from a corner store to feed it. And the climax of the show...God I can't even type it and i'm crying. The littlest angel. With the kid who played Jodie on family affair. another one that makes me cry. Damn I love to cry at Christmas I guess. I wish I could find JT, the littlest angel, mr Kreugers Christmas and the little drummer boy, on DVD.
ETA: I guess I shouldn't have lumped tv stuff in here...soory.

Man, JT should have come with a parental guidance warning! Like, no one under the age of 25 should watch it. It was a killer. I was inconsolable when I saw it (I think I was about eight or nine. Yeah, I'm old.). Holiday movie, my ass! That movie made me want to off myself!

With the kid who played Jodie on family affair. another one that makes me cry. Aaaaaah, you're my age! I remember both of those, and I used to alternately sob and be horrified. I'd sob at the little lamb from "The Little Drummer Boy" ( he winds up okay at the end, right? The baby Jesus heals him?) - I just cried and cried. And "The Littlest Angel" scared the crap out of me! That they had a Christmas show which showed a little kid getting killed? Yikes! I was like, "No thanks, dude, I'll take the coal in my stocking!"

I didn't know there was a movie, but considering the tears I'm wiping away just remembering reading that book almost 30 years ago, I WON'T be checkin' it out! Did anyone see the, dear lordy, live action version of Year Without a Santa Claus on telly a couple days ago?

I saw the listing, but was afraid to check it out. Wasn't John Goodman in it?
The dead-eyed look of the characters in The Polar Express freaks me out.
Ridiculous "About to close up the library" line and all, I'm still a sucker for It's A Wonderful Life. The toast at the end kills me every. single. damned. time.
I recently discovered Holiday Affair with Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh, which is really cute. I think TCM will be showing it again this month. Robert Mitchum--in a Christmas movie! That's enough to recommend it right there.
