Re: The Nutcracker, I grew up watching the Baryshnikov version and some other one that was all done on ice with cutaways to a very creepy Herr Drosselmeyer (and if anybody knows what that one was or where I can get it, let me know!). The ice skating one is my favorite, but I haven't seen it since the mid-eighties. LOVE that! That's one of my all time favorites, and it's available through Amazon.com ( the Baryshnikov version, that is - I've never seen the ice skating version).

Thanks, Ripley! Cutting-and-pasting my last reply: We're having Movie Night tonight to watch White Christmas. Believe it or not, I've never seen it. A Christmas Story is awesome. A couple years ago, we went to a panel presentation of it (with all the cast members) at the Arclight. Seeing it on the big screen is totally different; you can see details about the neighborhood and the town, how almost-poor they were, and know how hard it must've been for Mom to save up all her Housewife Allowance to afford Dad's bowling ball. Plus... Scott Farkus. My favorite it the Peanuts special. Yes, I'm a hippy liberal former Christian high school student who has huge problems with organized religion... and I cry every time Linus says "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown." It's perfect.

I changed the name of the thread, too.

I loathe A Christmas Story. It's one of the most idiotic holiday movies ever made, there are no sympathetic characters whatsoever, and it gets played far too much this time of year. HATE.

Sorta like Green Bean Casserole, A Christmas Story also seems to be a "love it/hate it!" with little middle ground!
Randy rocks my world. "Show me how the piggies eat!"

I was just asked this morning by the middle little smockery if they could watch the MST3K version of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians after school.
I think its time I dusted off my copy of Scrooged as well.
