I also hate A Christmas Story. I preferred the bully to little stupid ass Ralphie. I was hoping he'd shoot his eye out.
Christmas movies I do like are, The Ref and Mixed Nuts. Of course the old Rudolph and Frosty claymations are wonderful too.

I was just asked this morning by the middle little smockery if they could watch the MST3K version of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians after school. Oh god, yes. I liked the other Christmas MST3K episode with the little girl and the guy in the hilariously cheap-looking devil costume. The name escapes me at the moment. Although lately, I've found myself watching Aliens during the holidays. I'm not sure why. And may I just add that I have a blinding hatred for Love Actually?

Are you human?? Seriously, I could sit on my couch, drooling, and watch all 24 hours. I agree with the poster who said Ralphie rules. I love the non-sensical whining, over and over again.

For the longest time I was a big hater of A Christmas Story, preferring its sequel, "It Runs in the Family" (aka "My Summer Story.") I had a change of heart about eight years ago; I love it and I don't mind the 24 hour repeat.
Count me in on the Santa Claus Conquers the Martians love. You spell it S-A-N-T-A C-L-A-U-S, hooray for Santy Claus!

And may I just add that I have a blinding hatred for Love Actually? That movie makes me projectile vomit. Hugh Grant as the prime minister of England? Puh-leaze.

I love A Christmas Story! I tear up when they're at the dinner table and the mom doesn't tell the dad about the fight that Ralphie had. It's such an awesome mommie moment in film.
I get so pissed when they show it for 24 hrs, cos in all that fucking time I never get to see it completely. I always have family over that whines about it. "Is that stilll on?" "24 hours? That's crazee!" "Put it on something else."
I really like to watch holiday films when they come on TV. I'd rather see them with the commercial interruptions than watch a DVD. Some sort of throwback to childhood I guess. Plus the thrill of hunting them down to see them.

I loathe A Christmas Story. It's one of the most idiotic holiday movies ever made, there are no sympathetic characters whatsoever, and it gets played far too much this time of year. HATE. Me too. The 24 hours of it on TNN irks me more than anything other than my family should on Christmas. Me three. Of the old school TV specials, Santa Claus is Coming to Town is definitely my favorite (isn't that the one with the Heat Miser, a.k.a. Jerry Stiller?). Among the newer movies, well -- there must be something terrible wrong with us because my wife and I LOVE Bad Santa. Watch it at least a couple of times every December -- interspersed with at least one showing of The REf -- and laugh away the holiday stress.

Sancho, there is nothing wrong with you, as far as I am concerned. Those are two of my favorite Christmas movies, with Scrooged thrown in as well. I love a Christmas movie which shows how messed up people and their families can be.
You know what? This is the year I give in and order a copy of A Diva's Christmas Carol from Amazon. I keep waiting for people to buy it for me, and it keeps not happening. The Ghost of Christmas Future shows Ebony her future via a VH1 Behind The Music? LOVE IT!!!

Sancho, the one with the Heat Miser and his brother Snow Miser is The Year Without a Santa Claus. It also features the very annoying elves Jingle and Jangle. Not that they keep me from watching it; if it's Christmas themed, I'm all over it. (Unless it's poorly animated and featuring characters that didn't exist when noelie was a kid; if Dora and Diego have a Christmas special, I don't need to know). I resisted for a long time, but this year Elf got me. It's not my favorite, but it'll be on the list.

Maybe this belongs in the true confessions thread, but... I've never seen A Christmas Story. *ducks flying objects* I've decided that this is the year I finally see it, and judging from everybody's posts it doesn't look like I'll have trouble finding it on TV.
Elf is always awesome. It was on TV over Thanksgiving, and I watched it three nights in a row. The giant burp, followed by "Did you hear that?" has become a popular phrase in my house.
