I don't really like Christmas, but a great Christmas special is the "Married...With Children" special called "It's a Bundyful Life." It's all about how an angel comes down to show Al Bundy what life for his family would have been like if he'd never been born. Turns out the rest of his family is much happier without him. It's hilarious.
"The Muppet Christmas Carol" is funny, too. I love Gonzo and that little rat. (I forget the rat's name.)

I find myself watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas at least once during the holidays.

I love White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. It's utterly cheesy but it enthralls me. I love that one and Holiday Inn, which is the movie that spawned White Christmas. The song was in it. I just checked imdb and was surprised that it was 10 years plus earlier. Anything with snow and Vermont gets me going. Christmas in Connecticut (Barbara Stanwick version) and The Man Who Came to Dinner (Bette Davis version) are also on my absolute necessity list.

Muppet Christmas Carol is good but it's no Muppet Treasure Island. Tim Curry? Billy Connolly? Jennifer Saunders? Rizzo running a rat cruise on the Hispaniola? Great stuff. This may be my #1 favorite movie. Sad, huh?
A Christmas Story is the best holiday movie evuh! The non-PC Chinese restaurant scene, anyone?
Best Scrooge? Alistair Sim.

As cheeseball as it sounds, I really enjoy It's a Wonderful Life. I think Jimmy Stewart was terrific, and I think that it doesn't shy away from George Bailey's darker thoughts and real internal struggle. The last 15 minutes alone or so require a whole box of tissues.
I'm also a Grinch fan!

I adore watching It's a Wonderful Life because Jimmy Stewart reminds me so much of my dad. With the amount of tears it produces now, I probably won't even be able to watch it once Dad passes away--especially since it's his favorite movie of all time and thus all the more sentimental.
I have a new Christmas movie firmly ensconsed in the pantheon along with It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (old-school animated version): Elf cracks me up. I was howling with laughter to the point of tears when we watched it in the theater, and the games on the DVD are fun to goof off with when I'm supposed to be getting things done. Will Ferrell is starting to get on my nerves the way Jim Carrey did about 10 years ago, but I can't see myself ever hating Elf--so the end drags a little, but the casting is awesome. Bob Newhart as the Head Elf? Ed Asner as Santa? Perfection!

Oh, Lord, yes. "Ra ra ra ra ra, ra ra, ra ra!" Yikes.
It's gotta be A Christmas Carol, the black-and-white version with Alistair Sim, and nothing else. I can practically quote that movie from memory.
"I don't know anything, I never did know anything, and now I know, what I don't know, all on a Christmas morning!"
"I don't deserve to be so happy. But I can't help it!"

I find myself watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas at least once during the holidays. I always tear up when the poor dog has to pull the sled piled sky high. That Grinch is just so mean to him.

I'm bumping this because I just saw Love Actually again. It's terribly cheesey, but they really do know how to manipulate your emotions. Being the kind of girl who doesn't really catch the eye of the cute guy (except Mr.WebGirl) I get totally elated when Luara Linney almost hooks up with her crush, then demolished when she has to give him up.
