I used to watch Edward Scissorhands every December and still don't really feel like it's "the holidays" until I've heard Alan Arkin singing "I Saw Three Ships". While staple-gunning fake snow to the roof!

I generally hate Christmas movies, but there is something about White Christmas that warms my cold, black heart. I love every hokey minute of that movie, and [small voice]I think the general is kind of hot for an old man[/small voice]. Danny Kaye is always fun to watch too! However, I am always incredibly distracted by Vera-Ellen's waist. It's oddly small, like she's wearing an invisible corset.
My favorite, favorite, favorite holiday movie isn't a Christmas movie, but a Thanksgiving movie and it's Home for the Holidays with Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr, and a very, very yummy Dylan McDermott. My brother and I get a HUGE kick out of it because it is so freakishly similar to our own family and our uptight sister deserves a turkey in her lap.
I think we may have to make The Hebrew Hammer a tradition though because my husband is Jewish and we're always bored on Christmas day because nothing is open, so we end up looking for a good movie and eating Chinese food.

I had never seen it, but it was on yesterday morning, so I TiVoed White Christmas based on this thread. I can't wait to watch it!
I think my family may have to convert to Judaism. We cook, but we always go to the movies on Christmas Day. It's a tradition.

Christmas Day has been Blockbuster Movie Day in recent years, a tradition started several years ago with Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Also, it was a terrific opportunity to cruise Hot Jewish Men in the lobby and theatre before and after the film. I'll never deny being that shallow. I even cruised at Schindler's List, though with markedly lower success rates.

You guys...we're terrible. Hee heee hee!
The Greecies are so gonna have the best table in hell.
I just hope I get to pick the movie this year. The Producers was last year...and no. I feel bad for my sister being exposed to The English Patient at 8, though.
You know what I realize upon rewatching bits and pieces of it? Long Kiss Goodnight takes place during the Christmas Season. I saw that movie with my mom and she wanted to dye her hair blonde and start kicking some ass.

White Christmas hands down. This is right up near the top of my all-time favorite movies. I used to watch this movie year round, I love it so much. I can quote the entire movie right along with it. I think part of it is I simply adore Danny Kaye and will watch him in anything (for those fans of WC, Danny was not the first nor the second choice for the role of Phil Davis. First choice was Fred Astaire, but he couldn't do it so then they went with Donald O'Connor. He dropped out and they got Danny Kaye.). I think I might even have a small crush on Danny Kaye. It also has Der Bingle, and I'd listen to him sing just about anything. It was on Turner Classic Movies on Saturday night and I watched it. I also have it on DVD, so I'll catch it again at least once.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation also rates right up there. I agree with the poster that said it's probably the best of the bunch (although the original does give it a run for its money).
Someone else mentioned Christmas in Connecticut, which I adore as well. I just love S.Z. Sakall (Felix) and his "Hunky Dunky" has been incorporated into our everyday vocabulary.
And finally, A Christmas Story. "I want an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!" 'Nuff said.

It's all about A Christmas Story for my family. My brother and I have been threatening to buy my dad one of those leg lamps for a few years. To my mom's horror we even suggest that he can put it in the office - right in front of the window that looks out onto the street.
I can see our family finding an excuse to go visit the Christmas Story House & Museum. Once when visiting relatives in Northern CA, we made a side trip to the Ponderosa (home of the Bonanza set) since we loved that show so much.

The Sound of Music makes me want to projectile vomit. If you agree with me, I'll send you a chocolate, gold-covered star. I think The Sound of Music is the biggest piece of crap ever made. Seriously, if I hear even a moment of this film it makes me feel violent. Totally ruined a Christmas for me a few years back as the kids in the family had it on and as soon as it ended they would start it all over again. For me the holidays are all about It's A Wonderful Life and A Christmas story. Never miss them.

MissCatHead and I have already had a Frosty/CharlieBrown marathon. I just ordered the Rudolph/LittleDrummerBoy/etc box set. We're going to fry our brains come Christmas Eve.
