They showed this all the time on the old USA channel in the early days of cable TV on late weekend nights. I remember Fee Waybill of the Tubes was in it too. I loved the ending, with Diane Lane emerging triumphant with her new group. Wonder if it's on DVD?

;D Yes! Love me some Rock 'N' Roll Highschool as well as Phantom of the Paradise and Velvet Goldmine (Not for the plot. But for the PRETTY!) But for sheer snarkability, you can't beat Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park. It's so deliciously awful! Gut-Bustingly bad! (Though I'll admit I once thought it was the greatest movie ever.... when I was 7.) Well, Ms. Bride, remember the TV shows like Solid Gold? Wouldn't that make a wonderful kitschy movie? a la Waiting for Guffman? Which by the way, "those" A Mighty Wind people have a brand new movie coming out! Yeah. Someone should parody Solid Gold, don't you agree, Bride?

Oh my gosh! Speaking of A Mighty Wind how have we gone three pages and not mentioned THIS IS SPINAL TAP! That's got to be the ultimate Rock 'N' Roll cinema experience.

Well, speaking of which, Waiting for Guffman! Was that great music, or what? "Almost to the annoying point!" (PS -- Off topic, because it wasn't rock music. But it was "music" in the loosest sense of the word...)

Yes! How great was that song at the end, "Tonight is What it Means to Be Young" - I always wondered who did the voice of Ellen Aim, Diane Lane's character. I found a website that said it was Laurie Sargent (from Face to Face).

I've got a DVD version of Phantom of the Paradise and can't wait to watch it and listen to the commentary!

What, no mention of Hedwig and the Angry Inch yet? I think John Cameron Mitchell is a genius. I loved Hedwig so much, and I cry at her rendition of "Wicked Little Town." Best rock and roll movie, ever. It not only has great music but it has a big heart. Wicked Little Town kills me every time. I also used to watch Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains on USA. I videotaped it but have since lost the tape. I have been searching for it on DVD but I don't think it's ever been released. Does anyone remember Rude Boy with The Clash? Lots of live footage. That was a big one during my high school days.

Did anybody here ever see The Repo Man? I know that the soundtrack was a huge hit with my next-door-neighbor who was totally into punk. I was just quoting Repo Man yesterday. There a re some great lines in there. Yesterday I used "Managing a pop group ain't no job for a man!" When I'm bored, I have been known to let loose with "Fuck this. Let's go do some crimes." There was a wonderful movie I saw on the USA network's "Night Flight" back in the mid 80's called "Breaking Glass". Excellent film about the rise and fall of a singer played by Hazel O'Connor. Includes a cameo in the audition sequence by my namesake, Rat Scabies of the Damned.

OMG, my peeps, I have found you. Phantom of the Paradise rules. Paul Williams - what an unbelievable group of songs. Mr. Wol bought me a POTP doll. I try to push this movie on everyone I meet. Most people are not appreciative of my efforts.
Streets of Fire and the glory of Jim Steinman. The actual lead vocals for Diane Lane's songs were sung by several different singers. Laurie Sargent is one of them. Interesting because Diane was offered Splash and Streets of Fire, and took Streets of Fire because she wanted to sing. The exact quote was when she found out Daryl Hannah got Splash and she said "Great. She'll show her tits and I'll sing." Then they didn't let her sing, SOF flopped, and Splash was huge. Oops. Amazing editing in SOF as well.
Keeping with the Diane Lane theme - Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains. And a young Laura Dern on bass. Awesome.
Times Square!!! The Sleaze Sisters!!! Robin Johnson!! Trini Alvarado! Is that on DVD? What a great soundtrack - Joe Jackson, the Ramones, Patti Smith...excellent. Trini is a serious singer - she's fantastic.
I recently revisited some of Urgh! A Music War on YouTube. Klaus Nomi doing Total Eclipse of the Sun kinda rocks my little world.
The Idolmaker - OMG. RIP Ray Sharkey you poor tortured soul. I think that would make an amazing musical. I know they're turning everything into musicals but I think that would jam. And a young Peter Gallagher, tearing off his clothes...he's not aging well but I still go gaga when I see him. Caesare!
I have so much love for Spinal Tap it's not even funny. I have a six hour bootleg version. All these insane improvs that never made it to the final cut. Their music videos kick serious ass.
I could go on and on...
