^^^ Oh, and his scene's with his son's (Larry?) son, Cool, when Larry is leaving to go chase another money-making idea? So touching and the man barely says a word. Yes! It was so heart-breaking when Larry's bullshitting him about how he's got one more trip to make, then he'll come back to work for his father. And the father is just sitting there calmly, pretending to believe him... And afterwards, when the little kid asks, "Will he be back?" Robards just calmly says, "No." I also loved Diane Weist in the movie. Her reaction when someone accidentally pulled her dildo out of a drawer thinking it was a flashlight was so human. She could easily have gone over the top in that scene with her reaction, but she was just all quiet and somehow resigned, like she's thinking, "Okay. This is my life."

Yeah, that was a great ensemble film, and I'd say Wiest's part was the hardest to pull off convincingly.
The final scene never fails to make me cry (happy tears, of course), but that's for another thread.
Topic? Mary Kay Place is another great scene-stealer.

She had such great lines:
I can't be a grandmother. I peed in a field for chrissakes!"

Re: Parenthood. I don't know the actor's name (too lazy to look it up on imdb) but the kid who was always putting buckets on his head and banging it against the wall was quite the little scene stealer himself. Great great film!

Parenthood is one of my favourite movies. It's got huge laughs (Steve Martin as Cowboy Bob with the bathroom mat belted to his thighs and his kid's cowboy hat on) and many sobs. Everyone was great in it except Martha Plimpton. I'm sorry but she's so unattractive (and was especially so for most of the movie), it's distracting. Little Leaf (now known as Joachin) Phoenix was heart-breaking in it as well.

That's another favorite scene of mine. Dianne Wiest is flipping out on Martha Plimpton and then as soon as Leaf walks in, she's all "Hii Gary" in this very happy, sing-songy voice. He grunts and walks into his room and then Diane says "Look it! You've upset your brother!" in this semi-hysterical voice. She was so fantastic in that movie.

I was never a big Dianne Wiest fan until Parenthood. But she makes that movie for me, and I absolutely LOOOOVE Steve Martin.
My favorite Dianne "scene stealer" is when she is looking at the sex pictures of her daughter and the daughter's boyfriend, and says "Oooh, here's one for my wallet!"

Another great scene stealer is Chris Cooper, who's great in, among other things, Lone Star, American Beauty, Syriana and Adaptation, the role which won him a well-deaerved Oscar for Best Supporting Actor several years ago.

I thought Emily Blunt stole all her scenes in The Devil Wears Prada. Absolutely! Her character was so much more interesting than Anne Hathaway's bland portrayal of Andy Sachs. I want to see Emily Blunt in more!

I think Dean Stockwell has stolen every scene he's ever been in in his entire movie and TV career.
