Oh totally! Jason Batemen, and Jason Bateman's hair, were my two favorite things about Dodgeball.

As much as I liked Joan Cusack in Working Girl, Sigourney Weaver stole that movie. Why no one in Hollywood thought to re pair her up with Harrison Ford is a shame.

Sometimes I'll watch a movie and say to myself, "you know what this movie needs? Phillip Seymour Hoffman." Such a great actor, he is sorely missed, I tell you.

Adam Driver in "This is Where I Leave You". It's IMO an overly predictable and staid dramedy, though the performances are good. But Driver just comes in and brings in this much-needed sense of chaos into the proceedings and it's as if all the scenes he's in come to life and everyone lights up in his interactions with him. In the audiocommentary on the film (it's a comfort watch for me, shut up... ) the director is so giddy pointing out all the hilarious random stuff Driver does that was apparently ad-libbed and enlivens proceedings. So at least he knew not to get in the way of that. He was still at the beginning of his career then, but you could see how charismatic and talented he is already. Also funny, he needs to do more comedy. Cary Grant in "Sylvia Scarlett". A Hepburn vehicle, but Grant seems the only one in the movie really firing on all cylinders and finding the various ingredents that turned into his legendary screen persona. A true "star is born" moment tbh.

Sometimes I'll watch a movie and say to myself, "you know what this movie needs? Phillip Seymour Hoffman." Such a great actor, he is sorely missed, I tell you. I remember totally loathing his character the first time I watched The Talented Mr. Ripley and loving him the second time I watched it. It's rare for a performance to hit you that hard in both directions. I want to shout out The Old Guard. It reminded me of the '90s movie Ronin, not in a literal plot sense, but in the sense that the international supporting cast really helped elevate what could have been an otherwise potboiler action movie. I think pretty much every role was impeccably cast, but Matthias Schoenarts, Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli really did a great job creating a sense of history and weight that helped carry the movie's premise. Also, shout out to Ngô Thanh Vân, who was also in The Old Guard. In only a few brief scenes, she had one of the most heartbreaking and fascinating characters. She did the same thing in The Last Jedi (the heroic operator of the bomber ship at the beginning).

I remember seeing this movie on my birthday, because my birthday is in Dump-uary (January 28), so it’s either an Oscar-nominated movie (if I’m lucky), or the trash they couldn’t release during the summer (May-July) or Oscar season (November and December). My brother wanted to see Torque (a movie with Ice Cube and motorcycles), but I chose Along Came Polly because it was the only thing that seemed watchable (despite my loathing for romantic comedies). Phillip Seymour Hoffman really made that movie worth it! God I miss that man, he was such a phenomenal actor. My choice for movie scene stealer is the attorney, played by the brilliant character actor Bruce McGill, that was in the movie The Insider. “Answer the question, Doctor.”

I didn't know This is Where I Leave You became a movie, I enjoyed the book. I will look for it. Ahh yes, PSH was so great as Freddie. You are so right Mutagen, he becomes more enjoyable upon multiple viewings. I will confess I have not seen Along Came Polly. In my defense, I have an irrational dislike of Ben Stiller. But if PSH is worth it then watch it I shall.. for y'all. Thanks for the recommendations, will add Old Guard to the list!

I was mad when I first saw that movie for making PSH say the word, "shart." That's just wrong.

Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in Tombstone. Shocking that he wasn’t nominated for Best Supporting Actor for that.
