I hope Fincher goes with an unknown to play Salander. Noomi Rapace was asked about the international version and if she would want to play Lisbeth Salander again. She said no, she has done her version of Salander and it is already out there. Why do it again?
Smart girl. Remakes never live up to the original. But Fincher directing gives me hope.

Really? I haven't heard anything about Noomi being offered and turning down the remake role. And I thought I had read everything about the film. I must have missed that one. Everything about Noomi and the remake makes big headlines here in Sweden.

coolbreezegirl, I meant that she was asked about it in an interview, she wasn't offered the part. It was when she was interviewed by Skavlan. She said (sorry for the Swedish to the non-Scandinavians):

Aha, thanks for clearing that up. She put a lot of effort into the original movies and from an artistic view it must be boring to repeat them, so I understand why she wouldn't.

I could maybe see Brad Pitt as Blomkvist, but I pictured Blomkvist as a bit older, mid-50's maybe? No idea on Salander. None of the current ingenues seem right for her.

I found the original a technically well made, well acted often exciting film that was probably most offensive piece of fiction I've ever seen - I just though it was horrifically misandrist.

Just watched this. The whole time, I was thinking, "There is NO ONE in Hollywood who could play Lisbeth like this." I can see Daniel Craig as Blomkvist, though. Craggy, tired but with some life and some surprises left in him. But Lisbeth? Who on earth can do justice to that role?
This movie wasn't my favorite. I wasn't insanely happy with it. It was merely okay. But that's better than 80% of the films I see these days! I think the character of Lisbeth was by far the best thing about the film.
One thing that bothered me about the film: It didn't make sense to me that they'd hook up like that. I was watching this with my husband and I had just leaned in to say, "Right now, if this were a Hollywood film, they'd be fucking." And whaddayaknow? In she walks, into his bedroom, and gets on top of him. For me, it didn't make sense. I suppose she needed to connect with someone, connect on her own terms, and perhaps she saw him as a safe option. I dunno. Didn't really work for me. /spoiler

MrsCatHead, that bothered me too. I know it's in the book, but I thought that storyline was unnecessary and out of place there too. It's like Lisbeth getting breast implants later on: it just felt unnecessary for the story and the character.

After reading the EW article, and reading this thread, I watched the movie tonight, and wasn't blown away. It was okay, but not a blockbuster thriller IMO. As far as bold-name casting goes: Daniel Craig for Mikael, and Ellen Page for Lisbeth. All the others gals mentioned would be laughable in the role.
