I've missed Daniel Craig, I'm enthusiastic about this (I mean, since I can't seem to halt these remakes with the power of my mind and all).

Ouch. I liked him in Casino Royale. Now that I think about it, I can't remember any other movie I've seen him in. But I think he was the obvious, and an excellent choice for the lead in GWtDT. Now let's see how bad the choice to play Lisbeth is. Oh, I agree on all counts, babycakes. I love him in his Sean Connery/Timothy Dalton-mode as Bond and in a lot of his other work. It is just that his non-Bond films post-2005 have been fizzlers. Even when he was potentially well-cast as Lord Azrael, The Golden Compass script and film were gutted (with the author's consent). He should romp home in this, however. David Fincher will be be setting it in Sweden. Kind of like how the BBC adaptations of Wallander with Kenneth Branagh are filmed in Sweden, but the cast speak in entirely in English. But in this, apparently fake Swedish accents will be used. Not such a great idea, IMO. I always cringe when the likes of Cate Blanchett and Angelina Jolie break out their Russian/German/etc impressions, and with a sound as particular as Swedish this has the potential to get downright dopey.

I've been wondering what sort of accents the American version will use, especially now that they've cast a Brit as Mikael Blomkvist and are looking at Americans and Aussies for Lisbeth Salander. I definitely am against using Swedish accents. Especially because most Swedes I've encountered speak practically perfect English!

I really hope they ditch any attempts at Swedish accents asap. It would make the whole remake idea even more idiotic. Cripes. Now I'm really worried about what kind of cheese-ness fake Swenglish speak will result in... ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) Just set it in Sweden and have people speak English. Remaking it is ludicrous anyway, but at least stay away from making it even worse.

I loved the Swedish version of the movie. I haven't read the book but I feel like the book is popular enough that they don't have to cast a "name" actress in the role of Lisbeth to make it work. She just has to be tough enough. Carey Milligan/Mulligan (whatever her name is) - not so much.
Considering they've already cast a Brit as the lead, why not move the story to England? It would be believable that there were aristocratic Nazi sympathizers in England that the story could easily be transplanted to some island off the English coast. English people in Sweden speaking with fake Swedish accents is a ridiculous idea.
Edited: so I wasn't implying that there were tons of Nazi sympathizers in England Edited 2: English fake Swedish speaking English with fake Swedish is confusing me already!

I think that is a good choice - he can pull off Martin.
Well, they've got a good Martin and Mikael Blomkvist. They just need to find someone good for Lisbeth (and Henrik Vanger. I really liked him in the original movie).

They have to go with an unknown as Lisbeth. Any high profile actress would be a complete and total letdown. Hell, at this point, I wish they'd cast the leader singer from Tokio Hotel. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

I love Stellan. I approve that Fincher is keeping things sexy, yes I do.
Does anyone think they'll try for Max von Sydow as Henrik, or is that too unoriginal?
